Ryan Zimmerman announces his retirement

Washington Nationals infielder Ryan Zimmerman has announced his retirement, releasing a statement on CAA Baseball. Zimmerman played 16 seasons all with the Nationals. The Nationals drafted Zimmerman in the first round of the 2005 draft with the fourth overall pick, he was their first draft pick.

Some of Zimmerman’s highlights include being a World Series champion, two time All-Star, two time Silver Slugger, and one time Gold Glover award winner. Zimmerman belted 284 home runs with a .277 average for his career.

Zimmerman was nicknamed “Mr. National” and had a great relationship with the media and fans during his career. Zimmerman is also good friends with other athletes in the DC area including Capitals legend Alex Ovechkin.
