Ravens sign Bernard Scott
The Baltimore Ravens have announced today that they have signed running back Bernard Scott. The Ravens had an open spot up since Bryant McKinnie was traded. Scott tour his ACL last year and was on the Cincinnati Bengals PUP before his release.
Scott will be the Ravens third running back and I would be surprised if he is active on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Bernard Pierce and Ray Rice are dealing with injuries so this may be an emergency move.
Here is the Ravens press release on Scott.
RAVENS SIGN RB BERNARD SCOTT
The Baltimore Ravens have signed RB Bernard Scott, general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome announced Monday morning.
Scott, who has spent his entire four-year NFL career with Cincinnati, was selected in the sixth round (209th overall) of the 2009 Draft out of Abilene Christian. After suffering a torn ACL in 2012, Scott began the 2013 season on the Bengals’ Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list before being released on Sept. 17.
Seeing action in 47 career games (three starts), the 5-10, 195-pounder has 255 career rushes for 1,035 yards (4.1 avg.) and 4 TDs, adding 29 receptions for 165 yards. Scott, who also spent time as the Bengals’ kickoff returner, has 73 career returns for 1,787 yards (24.5 avg.) and one touchdown.
In two collegiate seasons at Abilene Christian (2007-08), Scott became the school’s all-time leading rusher, recording 4,321 yards and scoring 73 touchdowns (63 rushing and 10 receiving). In 2008, he was named the Harlon Hill Award winner as the top player in NCAA Division II football.
