Orioles 5, Mariners 3: Bradish Dominates as Baltimore Ends Skid in Seattle

The Orioles bounced back in a big way Wednesday night, defeating the Seattle Mariners 5-3 at T-Mobile Park behind one of the best starts of Kyle Bradish’s career. Baltimore snapped a three-game losing streak and evened the series heading into Thursday’s rubber match.

Bradish Turns in His Best Start of the Season

After struggling in recent outings, Kyle Bradish looked like the ace the Orioles hoped to see when he returned from injury. The right-hander struck out a career-high 12 batters while allowing just one run on five hits over 7.2 innings. Bradish threw 100 pitches, 65 for strikes, and consistently overwhelmed Seattle hitters with his breaking stuff and fastball command.

Seattle managed only one run against Bradish, and that came in the fourth inning when Dominic Canzone delivered an RBI single after Julio Rodríguez doubled. Outside of that inning, the Mariners rarely threatened.

Gunnar Gets Baltimore Started

The Orioles broke through in the third inning against George Kirby.

Blaze Alexander singled with one out, and Gunnar Henderson followed by crushing a two-run homer to right-center field. The blast was Henderson’s 15th home run of the season and immediately gave Baltimore a 2-0 advantage.

Alexander quietly had one of his best games as an Oriole, finishing 3-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base while reaching base four times. His spark at the bottom of the lineup helped Baltimore generate offense throughout the night.

Taveras Delivers Key Insurance

The Orioles added a critical run in the sixth.

Pete Alonso beat out an infield hit with two outs, bringing Leody Taveras to the plate. Taveras ripped a triple into the gap, scoring Alonso and extending Baltimore’s lead to 3-1. The extra-base hit proved especially important considering Seattle’s late rally attempt.

Taveras also played strong defense in center field and continues to provide value at both ends of the game.

Defensive Play of the Night

Seattle nearly pulled closer in the sixth when Cal Raleigh launched a deep drive toward right field.

Tyler O’Neill had other ideas.

The Orioles right fielder timed his leap perfectly and robbed Raleigh of a home run, preserving Baltimore’s lead and taking away what could have been a game-changing swing. The play may have saved at least one run and kept momentum firmly on Baltimore’s side.

Holliday Adds Late Punch

Baltimore manufactured another run in the seventh.

Jackson Holliday walked to lead off the inning, advanced to third on Alexander’s single, and later scored on a Taylor Ward double-play grounder, making it 4-1.

Holliday then provided even more insurance in the ninth, launching a solo homer to center field for his fourth home run of the season. The blast pushed the Orioles’ lead to 5-1 and appeared to put the game away.

Ninth-Inning Drama

The ninth inning was not as comfortable as Orioles fans expected.

Ryan Helsley, making his first appearance since returning from the injured list, surrendered back-to-back home runs to Dominic Canzone and Cole Young on his first two pitches of the inning. Suddenly, Baltimore’s four-run lead was trimmed to 5-3.

Helsley settled down afterward, striking out two batters and finishing the game. While the outing was far from clean, the Orioles will gladly take the victory and move on.

By the Numbers

  • Kyle Bradish: 7.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 12 K
  • Gunnar Henderson: 2-run HR (15th of season)
  • Jackson Holliday: HR, 2 runs scored
  • Blaze Alexander: 3-for-3, BB, SB
  • Leody Taveras: RBI triple
  • Tyler O’Neill: Home-run robbery in right field
  • Orioles: 10 hits
  • Mariners: 7 hits

Final Thoughts

Wednesday’s victory looked much more like the Orioles team fans expected to see. Bradish delivered an ace-level performance, Henderson supplied early power, Holliday added late insurance, and Baltimore received contributions throughout the lineup. Most importantly, the Orioles responded after Tuesday’s frustrating loss and put themselves in position to win the series Thursday afternoon.

The rubber game features Shane Baz against Bryan Woo as Baltimore looks to leave Seattle with a series victory before heading to Los Angeles.
