Maryland High School Boys Lacrosse Power Rankings: Top 20 Teams Entering Championship Week
Maryland continues to set the national standard for high school boys lacrosse. The MIAA A Conference again delivered brutal week-to-week battles, public-school contenders surged across the state, and several DMV powers strengthened Maryland’s reputation as the nation’s premier lacrosse hotbed.
National programs such as McDonogh School, Calvert Hall College High School and Boys’ Latin School of Maryland spent the spring fighting through schedules loaded with Division I commits and top-ranked opponents. Public-school programs from Anne Arundel County, Howard County and Montgomery County also stacked impressive resumes against difficult competition.
These rankings combine overall record, strength of schedule, quality wins, head-to-head results, postseason performance and national reputation.
1. McDonogh School
McDonogh owns the top spot after surviving the gauntlet that defines the MIAA A Conference. Elite defensive depth, dominant faceoff play and efficient offensive execution carried the Eagles through one of the nation’s toughest schedules.
Several signature victories pushed McDonogh above the rest of the field. Strong performances against fellow national contenders established the Eagles as Maryland’s most complete team entering the postseason.
National ranking services consistently placed McDonogh among the country’s elite throughout the spring.
2. Calvert Hall College High School
Calvert Hall continues to prove why the Cardinals remain one of the nation’s premier lacrosse programs. Physical defense, transition speed and elite midfield production fueled another championship-caliber season.
The Cardinals collected major wins inside MIAA play and consistently answered pressure moments late in games. A difficult schedule prevented extended winning streaks, but few teams matched Calvert Hall’s week-to-week consistency.
The program’s national pedigree also carries weight after recent top national finishes.
3. Boys’ Latin School of Maryland
Boys’ Latin once again showcased explosive offensive talent and elite stick skills. The Lakers attacked opponents in waves and generated scoring from every level of the field.
Few teams moved the ball more efficiently this season. Several high-scoring victories against ranked opponents cemented Boys’ Latin near the top of the state rankings.
The Lakers also continue one of Maryland’s richest lacrosse traditions.
4. Loyola Blakefield
Loyola Blakefield built momentum during the second half of the season and emerged as one of Maryland’s toughest defensive teams.
Strong goaltending and disciplined half-field defense allowed Loyola to grind out victories against elite opponents. Signature wins against conference rivals strengthened the Dons’ postseason résumé.
The program’s championship history remains one of the strongest in Maryland lacrosse.
5. St. Mary’s High School
St. Mary’s combined offensive creativity with excellent transition play throughout the spring. The Saints consistently handled pressure situations and picked up critical wins against ranked opponents from both Maryland and the DMV.
Battle-tested performances in close games elevated St. Mary’s into the top five. The Saints also benefited from one of the deeper midfields in the state.
The Annapolis powerhouse continues to strengthen its statewide reputation each season.
6. Severn School
Severn played one of the state’s toughest schedules and remained competitive against nearly every elite opponent on the calendar.
The Admirals earned major victories over strong regional competition while displaying impressive offensive balance. Tight losses against top-ranked programs prevented a higher placement, but few teams showed more resilience.
Results against programs such as Loyola Blakefield and Gilman highlighted Severn’s strength.
7. Archbishop Spalding High School
Archbishop Spalding continued its rise as a legitimate statewide contender. Physical defense and aggressive riding pressure helped the Cavaliers wear down opponents all season.
Several dominant victories against highly regarded competition established Spalding as one of Maryland’s most dangerous postseason teams. National rankings also rewarded the Cavaliers for their strong spring.
8. Gilman School
Gilman showed flashes of elite potential throughout the season. The Greyhounds possessed excellent athleticism and generated offense in transition better than almost any team in Maryland.
Consistency issues against top-tier opponents kept Gilman outside the top five, but the talent level remained obvious every week.
9. Mount St. Joseph High School
Mount St. Joseph quietly assembled one of the stronger résumés in the state. The Gaels competed physically against MIAA opponents and delivered several upset victories during conference play.
Balanced scoring and disciplined defensive rotations kept St. Joe competitive against elite competition.
10. Bullis School
Bullis remains one of the DMV’s premier programs and deserves strong consideration among Maryland’s best teams.
The Bulldogs played a national-level schedule and collected major victories against ranked opponents throughout the region. High-end offensive talent and athletic midfield play drove Bullis into another strong postseason run.
11. Landon School
Landon’s schedule again ranked among the nation’s toughest. The Bears delivered quality wins throughout the spring and competed effectively against elite national opponents.
Strong faceoff play and disciplined offensive possessions defined Landon’s identity this season.
12. Georgetown Preparatory School
Georgetown Prep surged during the second half of the season and climbed several regional rankings after key victories against top DMV competition.
The Little Hoyas showed excellent offensive depth and strong late-game execution.
13. Severna Park High School
Severna Park once again dominated Anne Arundel County competition and remained the top public-school team in Maryland for much of the spring.
Efficient offense, strong goalie play and disciplined team defense helped the Falcons pile up victories entering the playoffs.
14. Broadneck High School
Broadneck built another excellent public-school résumé behind explosive scoring and excellent transition play.
The Bruins consistently handled regional opponents and proved capable of challenging stronger private-school competition.
15. Howard High School
Howard emerged as one of the state’s best public-school stories this season. The Lions showcased toughness, offensive balance and strong defensive communication throughout the year.
Several statement victories against ranked county rivals boosted Howard into the statewide rankings.
16. Kent Island High School
Kent Island continued to dominate Maryland’s Eastern Shore lacrosse scene.
The Buccaneers relied on physical defense and efficient ball movement while piling up victories against regional opponents. A deep senior class fueled one of the best seasons in program history.
17. Churchill High School
Churchill produced another strong season inside Montgomery County. Balanced scoring and disciplined defensive play allowed the Bulldogs to remain among Maryland’s top public-school contenders.
18. St. Paul’s School
St. Paul’s battled through one of the nation’s toughest conferences and remained competitive despite facing elite opponents nearly every week.
The Crusaders’ schedule strength gives them an edge over several teams with better records.
19. DeMatha Catholic High School
DeMatha showed steady improvement throughout the spring and earned several important wins against quality competition.
The Stags played disciplined lacrosse and developed into a dangerous postseason opponent.
20. Hereford High School
Hereford rounds out the rankings after another strong public-school campaign. The Bulls displayed excellent chemistry, efficient offensive possessions and solid goaltending throughout the season.
Several quality county victories helped Hereford earn statewide recognition.
Maryland again proved why no state matches its depth in high school boys lacrosse. The MIAA continued to resemble a college conference every week, while public-school programs across the state kept narrowing the gap with traditional private-school powers.
Programs such as McDonogh, Calvert Hall, Boys’ Latin and Loyola Blakefield remain national brands, but rising contenders including Archbishop Spalding, Howard and Kent Island demonstrated how much statewide talent continues to grow. The postseason now takes center stage, and several of these teams still possess legitimate arguments to finish as Maryland’s true No. 1 squad.
