Hershey Bears Reload Their Depth: Morrison, McCallum, and Beck Bring Experience and Upside to Chocolate Town

The Hershey Bears continued reshaping their roster for the 2026-27 American Hockey League season on Tuesday by signing forwards Cam Morrison and Landon McCallum along with defenseman Noah Beck to AHL contracts. The moves, announced by Vice President of Hockey Operations Bryan Helmer, provide the three-time defending Calder Cup champions with experienced depth after an offseason that saw several key veterans depart in free agency.

While none of the three signings are headline-grabbing NHL acquisitions, each player arrives with a resume that suggests they could compete for meaningful roles in Hershey while also providing organizational depth for the Washington Capitals.

Cam Morrison Returns from Europe Looking for Another Shot

At 27 years old, Cam Morrison is the most experienced of the trio.

Originally selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round (40th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Morrison built his reputation as a skilled scoring winger before starring at the University of Notre Dame.

After finishing his collegiate career, Morrison turned professional with the Rockford IceHogs before later spending time with the Charlotte Checkers.

Morrison’s Career Numbers

  • 123 AHL games
  • 18 goals
  • 23 assists
  • 41 points
  • 13 Calder Cup Playoff games
  • 59 career ECHL games
  • 23 goals
  • 23 assists
  • 46 points

Last season Morrison headed overseas, joining the Stavanger Oilers in Norway’s top professional league.

The move rejuvenated his offensive game.

In 40 contests, Morrison scored:

  • 18 goals
  • 12 assists
  • 30 points

Those numbers helped convince Hershey that the 6-foot-3 winger deserved another opportunity in North America.

For the Bears, Morrison projects as a middle-six scoring winger capable of adding size, finishing ability, and veteran experience.

Landon McCallum Continues His Climb

The youngest addition is Landon McCallum, a 22-year-old forward who has steadily climbed through the professional ranks.

Unlike Morrison, McCallum developed in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sudbury Wolves, where he became known as a hardworking two-way forward capable of contributing offensively.

Following junior hockey, he joined the Kansas City Mavericks in the ECHL.

Over two professional seasons he has posted:

  • 120 ECHL games
  • 28 goals
  • 54 assists
  • 82 points

His production earned him his first taste of the AHL during the 2025-26 season, appearing in three games with the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

McCallum’s speed and work ethic fit the style Hershey has embraced over recent championship seasons.

While he may begin the season in a bottom-six role, there is room for offensive growth if he adapts quickly to the AHL level.

Noah Beck Adds Offensive Ability to the Blue Line

Defenseman Noah Beck arrives with perhaps the highest offensive upside among the three newcomers.

The 25-year-old was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft before spending five collegiate seasons at Clarkson University and Arizona State University.

Since turning pro, Beck has shown he can generate offense from the blue line.

During the 2025-26 season with the Wichita Thunder of the ECHL he produced:

  • 44 games
  • 9 goals
  • 32 assists
  • 41 points

He also appeared in 14 games with the San Jose Barracuda, recording two assists.

A defenseman capable of moving the puck and contributing on the power play is always valuable in today’s game, making Beck an intriguing addition for Hershey’s defensive corps.

Why These Signings Matter

The Bears entered the offseason needing to replace significant organizational depth after losing several veterans, including Henrik Rybinski, Brett Leason, Wyatt Bongiovanni, and Corey Schueneman. Rather than making splashy signings, Hershey has continued its proven formula of identifying players who have excelled in the ECHL, European leagues, or college hockey and giving them opportunities to develop within one of the AHL’s premier organizations.

With top Capitals prospects such as first-round picks Oliver Suvanto, Terik Parascak, and Lynden Lakovic expected to filter into the system over the next few seasons, experienced veterans will be essential in maintaining the winning culture that has defined Hershey.

MSB Take

These aren’t blockbuster signings, but they are exactly the type of moves championship AHL organizations make.

Cam Morrison brings proven professional scoring experience and could become one of Hershey’s better secondary offensive threats if his success in Norway translates back to North America.

Landon McCallum is a developmental piece whose best hockey may still be ahead of him, while Noah Beck could quietly become one of the Bears’ most important additions thanks to his puck-moving ability from the back end.

The Bears have built a dynasty by finding overlooked talent, developing it, and putting players in positions to succeed. Morrison, McCallum, and Beck all fit that mold, and don’t be surprised if one—or even all three—play important roles as Hershey pursues another Calder Cup during the 2026-27 season.
