Delmarva Shorebirds Weekly Recap (July 3–10, 2026)

The Delmarva Shorebirds experienced an up-and-down week from July 3 through July 10, finishing 1-4 in completed games while battling one of the Carolina League’s top clubs, the Charleston RiverDogs, before opening a home series against the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. Although the wins were difficult to come by, Delmarva continued to receive encouraging performances from several young Orioles prospects, particularly on the mound. Weather also played a role late in the week, forcing a postponement of Friday night’s game.
Series vs. Charleston RiverDogs
July 3 – Delmarva 3, Charleston 2
The Shorebirds opened the week with a hard-fought victory.
Delmarva manufactured runs throughout the evening before the pitching staff protected a one-run lead over the final innings. The win gave the Shorebirds positive momentum heading into the Independence Day weekend.
July 4 – Charleston 9, Delmarva 3
Charleston’s offense broke the game open with several big innings.
Despite fighting until the final out, Delmarva couldn’t overcome the RiverDogs’ relentless attack as Charleston evened the series.
July 5 – Delmarva 2, Charleston 0
The Shorebirds responded with their best pitching performance of the week.
Christian Rodriguez dominated over 5.2 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out RiverDogs hitters with an impressive mix of fastballs and off-speed pitches. Jordan Sanchez paced the offense with two hits and an RBI as Delmarva completed the shutout.
Series vs. Kannapolis Cannon Ballers
July 7 – Kannapolis 6, Delmarva 2
Kannapolis jumped ahead early and never looked back.
The Cannon Ballers built a multi-run lead before Delmarva attempted a late rally that ultimately fell short.
July 8 – Kannapolis 6, Delmarva 2
The Shorebirds again struggled to generate timely offense.
A brief third-inning rally cut into the deficit, but Delmarva left several runners on base while Kannapolis added insurance runs late.
July 9 – Kannapolis 5, Delmarva 4
The Shorebirds nearly erased a late deficit.
Jordan Sanchez and Elvin Garcia both homered to fuel the comeback, but Delmarva’s rally came up one run short despite putting the tying run on base in the closing innings.
July 10 – Postponed
Friday night’s contest was postponed because of inclement weather.
The game was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader later in the series.
Players Who Stood Out
Christian Rodriguez, RHP
Rodriguez delivered one of Delmarva’s finest starts of the season. His 5.2 innings of one-hit, scoreless baseball anchored the Shorebirds’ shutout victory over Charleston and showcased why Baltimore remains excited about his development.
Jordan Sanchez, INF
Sanchez enjoyed another productive week at the plate. He drove in the winning run during the Charleston series and later homered against Kannapolis while continuing to be one of Delmarva’s most consistent offensive contributors.
Elvin Garcia, INF
Garcia provided some much-needed power during the Kannapolis series with a home run on July 9 and continued to flash his offensive upside.

While the results didn’t consistently go Delmarva’s way, the Shorebirds continued to show flashes of the young talent Baltimore is developing on the Eastern Shore. The Shorebirds remain focused on player development above all else, and despite a difficult week in the standings, several Orioles prospects took meaningful steps forward.
