Bowie State University Athletics adds Darius Wilson to the Bowie State Bulldogs men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach for the 2026-27 season, Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bryan Wilson announced Sept. 1, 2026. Darius Wilson previously served as an assistant coach at Bowie State and will assist with recruiting, player development, scouting, game preparation, program culture, mentorship and the development of Bulldog student-athletes.
Darius Wilson Returns to Bowie State
Darius Wilson was part of the Bowie State staff that guided the Bulldogs to the 2013 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. His return brings him back to the Bowie State program after his previous tenure as an assistant coach.
“I am extremely excited to welcome Coach Darius Wilson to my staff,” said Interim Head Coach Bryan Wilson. “Having been a part of the 2013 CIAA Championship staff, he understands what it means to be a BULLDOG and the standard that comes with representing Bowie State. Coach Darius brings a tremendous amount of experience, knowledge, passion, and energy to our program. His ability to connect with and develop young men will make him a great mentor to our student-athletes, both on and off the court. I am excited about the impact he will have on our student-athletes and the continued growth of Bowie State Basketball.”

Wilson’s Coaching and Player-Development Background
Most recently, Wilson served as an assistant coach at The Highland School. During his tenure, the program produced a school-record 42-win season, earned a Top-15 national ranking, won its first VISAA Division I State Championship and defeated then-No. 1 nationally ranked Prolific Prep.
Over a two-year span, The Highland School program had seven student-athletes sign collegiate scholarships. Wilson also has worked in player development with athletes across high school, collegiate, professional and international levels.
Through Higher Level Basketball Club, Wilson has helped more than 100 student-athletes advance to collegiate athletics, according to the announcement. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Sports Psychology from George Mason University.
Role With Bowie State Men’s Basketball
Wilson will assist Bryan Wilson and the Bowie State coaching staff in recruiting, player development, scouting, game preparation, program culture, mentorship and the overall development of Bowie State student-athletes. His responsibilities will support the Bowie State Bulldogs men’s basketball program in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
“My goal is to make a positive impact on our young men both on and off the court, while doing everything I can to help elevate Bowie State Men’s Basketball to new heights,” said Wilson. “I’m thankful for the opportunity, excited about the vision, and ready to get to work. Darius Wilson’s addition gives Bowie State Bulldogs men’s basketball an assistant coach with prior experience in the program and a documented background in player development. He was part of the staff that won the 2013 CIAA Championship and reached the NCAA Tournament.
His responsibilities at Bowie State will include recruiting, development, scouting, game preparation, culture and mentorship as the Bulldogs prepare for the 2026-27 season.
