Keys Stay Hot, Win Four of Seven and Keep Pressure on Division Race
The Frederick Keys continued one of the best seasons in franchise history this past week, posting a 4-3 record while remaining near the top of the South Atlantic League standings. Frederick entered the week fresh off a strong series against the Brooklyn Cyclones before returning home and taking three of four games from the Hub City Spartanburgers. The Keys improved to 38-23 overall and remained firmly in the playoff hunt.
One of the biggest stories continues to be the organization’s remarkable turnaround in its first season back as the Orioles’ High-A affiliate. Frederick has consistently received contributions throughout the lineup while the pitching staff has emerged as one of the strongest units in the league.
Friday, June 12
Brooklyn Cyclones 13, Frederick Keys 4
The week began with a rough night at Maimonides Park as Brooklyn’s offense broke the game open early and never looked back.
The Cyclones capitalized on several scoring opportunities and handed Frederick one of its most lopsided defeats of the month. The Keys struggled to slow Brooklyn’s lineup and found themselves chasing the game throughout the evening.
Despite the loss, Frederick continued battling late and avoided being shut out, a sign of the offensive depth that has carried the club all season. The defeat snapped some of the momentum built earlier in the series.
Result: Loss, 13-4
Saturday, June 13
Frederick Keys 5, Brooklyn Cyclones 4 (10 innings)
The Keys responded immediately.
In one of the most exciting games of the week, Frederick battled into extra innings before pulling out a dramatic 5-4 victory. Elis Cuevas delivered the game-winning RBI single in the tenth inning, giving the Keys a huge road win.
Frederick showed tremendous resilience after Friday’s blowout loss. The pitching staff settled in, the defense made several key plays, and the offense came through in the clutch when it mattered most.
The victory kept the series competitive and highlighted the type of baseball the Keys have played throughout much of 2026.
Result: Win, 5-4 (10 innings)
Sunday, June 14
Brooklyn Cyclones 7, Frederick Keys 4
The finale in Brooklyn saw Frederick attempt to secure a split of the weekend games.
The Keys battled throughout the afternoon but were unable to overcome another strong offensive showing from the Cyclones. Frederick remained competitive and kept pressure on Brooklyn, but a few missed opportunities prevented a comeback.
Even in defeat, several Orioles prospects continued producing quality at-bats as the club prepared to head home.
Result: Loss, 7-4
Series Summary: Brooklyn
The Keys finished the final three games of the Brooklyn series with a 1-2 record.
Although Frederick dropped two of three, the extra-inning victory on Saturday prevented the trip from becoming a complete disappointment and demonstrated the team’s ability to respond after adversity.
Tuesday, June 16
Hub City Spartanburgers 4, Frederick Keys 0
Returning home to Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium, Frederick ran into a hot Hub City pitching staff.
The Keys were shut out for only the fourth time this season as the Spartanburgers limited scoring opportunities throughout the night. Frederick put runners on base but struggled to deliver the timely hit that has often fueled the offense.
The loss set up a critical doubleheader the following day.
Result: Loss, 4-0
Wednesday, June 17 – Game One
Frederick Keys 9, Hub City Spartanburgers 3
Facing a seven-inning doubleheader opener, the Keys exploded offensively.
Frederick’s bats came alive early and never slowed down. The offense generated traffic throughout the game while the pitching staff delivered a strong performance to secure a convincing victory.
The win immediately shifted momentum back toward the Keys and set the stage for a chance at a doubleheader sweep.
Result: Win, 9-3
Wednesday, June 17 – Game Two
Frederick Keys 9, Hub City Spartanburgers 1
The nightcap may have been Frederick’s most complete performance of the week.
The Keys dominated in all phases, scoring nine runs while holding Hub City to just one. The pitching staff was outstanding, limiting quality contact and keeping the Spartanburgers off the scoreboard for most of the contest.
A doubleheader sweep moved Frederick right back into the thick of the division race and demonstrated why the club has been one of the best teams in the league this season.
Result: Win, 9-1
Thursday, June 18
Frederick Keys 6, Hub City Spartanburgers 5
Thursday provided another thriller at Nymeo Field.
Frederick held off a late Hub City rally to secure a one-run victory and improve to 3-1 in the series. Key offensive contributions throughout the lineup allowed the Keys to build enough cushion before the bullpen closed things out.
Highlights from the game included RBI production from multiple hitters and another strong overall team effort. The win guaranteed Frederick a winning week and further strengthened its position near the top of the standings.
Result: Win, 6-5
