Washington Capitals Lose 5-4 in Shootout to Florida Panthers

The Washington Capitals took a hard lost in a 5-4 game to the Florida Panthers. The Capitals played hard all game, and had to kill a lot of questionable penalties in a tough game tonight.

The Capitals also had to comeback from a three goal deficit after Braden Holtby gave up four goals on 11 shots. Not all the goals where his fault due to bad turnovers from his defensemen, and bad bounces going in favor to the Panthers. Phoenix Copley later came in the start of the second period in relief of Holtby.

John Carlson got the scoring started scoring the only goal in the first round. Later Brett Connolly, Jakub Vrana and Davonte Smith-Pelly all scored in the second period to help the Capitals catch up after letting four goals in the first period.

The Capitals would yet trail on the scoreboard throughout the third period until Nicklas Backstrom scored the game tying goal in the last minute of the game. Unfortunately Matt Niskanen took a tripping penalty in the last 22 seconds.

The Capitals luckily killed the penalty and went into a shootout. TJ Oshie did Oshie things and started the the shootout scoring followed up by Evgeny Kuznetsov, but unfortunately Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom couldn’t score on there chances along with Phoenix Copley not showing up well in the shootout for a Capitals overtime lost.
