Ravens report card versus the Redskins: The defense and special teams

redskinsravensThe Baltimore Ravens beat the Washington Redskins Saturday night 23 to 17.  To find the report card on the offense go here.

Defensive Line: The defensive line showed its youth and talent against Robert Griffin, III. Tommy Jernigan had a sack and Brandon Williams also played lights out.  This unit may be short a few players but Williams looks like a guy about to break out.  The line only allowed 81 total rushing yards.  Grade A

450px-Dennis_Pitta_2011_stadium_practiceYes this is a few days late but heck these are the last two report cards of the season so why rush it.  For the story on the Ravens losing go here.

Quarterback:  Joe Flacco did not have much left in the tank and Tyrod Taylor was warming up several times.  It was hard to watch Flacco take hit after hit after he was already injured.  Flacco completed 30 out of his 50 passes with three interceptions and one touchdown.  Grade C

Ravens report card versus the Patriots: The offense

96px-Ray_Rice_2012The Baltimore Ravens lost to the New England Patriots 41 to 7. The score was not pretty but the score was close until the last two five minutes.

Quarterback: Joe Flacco was obviously hurt in this game. Flacco sprained his knee against the Detroit Lions and it was obvious that his performance was hampered. Flacco went 22 out of 38 for 260 yards and two interceptions and honestly it was probably the best he could do. The numbers were not pretty. Grade C

Ravens report card versus the Lions: The offense

97px-Joe_Flacco_(cropped)The Baltimore Ravens beat the Detroit Lions 18 to 16 in a game in which the Ravens needed to stay in the playoff picture.  Now the Ravens control their own destiny.  The Ravens did not score a touchdown but did move the ball well in a hostile environment and against a really good defense.

Quarterback: Joe Flacco is one tough guy, even after having his knee hit he was able to complete big throws when he Ravens needed him to.  Flacco completed 20 out of 38 of his passes for 222 yards.  Flacco also ran for 13 yards and did not turn the ball over.  Grade B+

Running backs:  Ray Rice is slowly improving health wise and it is showing on the field.  Rice averaged 4.7 yards per carry, it would have been nice to see him have more than one reception.  Bernard Pierce had 21 yards rushing on seven carries.  Grade B
