Caps cut Brandan Leipsic after his Instagram and twitter conversations, come to light
On, Wednesday, May 6th, a conversation involving Brandan Leipsic and some other prospects for the NHL came to light. The comments made, involved everything from drug use, to making fun of peoples weight, to other misogynistic, and demeaning comments.
The Capitals, once they found out about this, did an internal investigation into the comments. Once they found out that the comments were actually Brandan, they decided to cut ties with him.
There is an argument to be made about it being his personal account, and freedom of speech. I disagree with this argument. Just because a person has a national spotlight because of the sport that they play, does not mean they can say anything they want. If I could get fired for saying anything about my boss, on social media, then this is in the same ballpark. Athletes shouldn’t get a pass just because they have a national spotlight on them.
