Why the Ravens will have a historic defense.

The Baltimore Ravens defense looked amazing against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Every player on that defense complimented one another. They were able to commit 5 turnovers against QB Andy Dalton. The Bengals have explosive offense weapons on offense and Baltimore’s defense was able lockdown everyone.  Then I remembered what the Super Bowl winning defense of the 2000-01 Ravens did the first game of the season & held the Pittsburgh Steelers to 16-0 win. Weeks 4 & 5 that year they shutout the Cincinnati Bengals & Cleveland Browns that year as well. I believe this years Ravens have the potential to even be greater then that.

Last Sunday the Ravens looked like a younger, faster &, more explosive defense of years past. Secondary looked like they could intercept any QB 4 times. The additions of CB Brandon Carr & S Tony Jefferson has already improved the secondary. Carr came up with a interception from a tipped by LB Patrick Onwuasor late in the first & Jefferson led the team in total tackles with a sack as well. Ravens didn’t allow any type of run game either and held Cincinnati’s backfield to 22 rushing attempts for 77 yards. Ravens offense were able to capitalize as well on big turnovers as well. Veteran OLB Terrell Suggs caused a pass deflection that turned into a interception by Safety Lardarius Webb & was rushed in by RB Terrance West for a touchdown. Baltimore was also able to excel in pressuring Andy Dalton with a total of 5 sacks. The defense looked unbeatable and teams should start taking notes because they do look a lot more better then the 2000 Ravens and that defense was stacked. If the offense can keep executing off turnovers establish the run game and keep the defense off the field then Baltimores defense will continue to make plays all game long throughout the season.
