The 2020 Army/Navy Game Will Be Played At Army West Point
Due to the ongoing pandemic the 2020 Army/Navy game has been moved from Philadelphia to Michie Stadium in West Point NY. It will still take place on December 12th at 3pm on CBS. The restrictions placed on attendance for games played in Philadelphia was the primary reason the game was moved. Both academies want their student bodies to attend the game. Given that there is currently a cap of 7,500 fans allowed to attend games played at Lincoln Financial Field the math doesn’t work.
Both schools tried to find other neutral sites to host the event but given the restrictions on most stadiums within driving distance that was problematic. Michie Stadium is located on federal land so any restrictions applied by the state of New York aren’t enforceable on campus. Army was scheduled to be the home team in this year’s game.
The 2021 game is scheduled to take place at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey. It will honor the 20th anniversary of the 911 tragedy. The last time the game was played at West Point was during World War II. Army hosts Mercer tomorrow at noon. Navy meanwhile hosts Houston tomorrow at 3:30. Both games are on CBS Sports Network
