Should the Baltimore Ravens Sign Stefon Diggs? The Case for Bringing the Maryland Star Home

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the NFL’s most talented rosters, but one question continues to follow the team heading into training camp: Should general manager Eric DeCosta add another proven wide receiver?
One name continues to surface whenever free-agent discussions begin—former Maryland Terrapin and Gaithersburg native Stefon Diggs.
Diggs remains one of the biggest names still available on the open market after producing another 1,000-yard season with the New England Patriots in 2025. Despite turning 32 and entering the later stages of his career, the veteran receiver has shown he can still be an impact player. The NFL also recently concluded its personal conduct investigation without issuing any discipline, removing one of the largest obstacles to a potential signing.
A Perfect Football Fit?
The Ravens already have a talented receiving corps led by Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. Flowers has developed into Lamar Jackson’s most explosive receiving weapon, while Bateman has finally begun to show the consistency Baltimore hoped for when selecting him in the first round.
Adding Diggs would give offensive coordinator Todd Monken another veteran who can consistently separate from defenders and make difficult catches on third down.
A projected receiver room featuring:
- Zay Flowers
- Stefon Diggs
- Rashod Bateman
- Ja’Kobi Lane
- Elijah Sarratt
would immediately become one of the deepest groups Jackson has played with during his career.
Diggs Can Still Produce
Many free-agent receivers hit the market after their production begins to decline.
That is not the case with Diggs.
Last season, Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns while helping New England reach the Super Bowl. It marked his seventh career 1,000-yard season and proved he has recovered from the ACL injury that ended his 2024 campaign.
For his career, Diggs has totaled:
- 942 receptions
- 11,504 receiving yards
- 74 touchdowns
- Four Pro Bowl selections
- One First-Team All-Pro selection
Those numbers place him among the most productive wide receivers of his generation.
The Maryland Connection
Few free agents would embrace playing in Baltimore more than Diggs.
The former University of Maryland standout starred for the Terrapins before becoming a fifth-round steal by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015.
Returning home to finish his career while chasing a Super Bowl with Lamar Jackson would create one of the biggest storylines of the offseason. Diggs has even acknowledged that playing close to home has crossed his mind since entering free agency.
Would the Ravens Be Interested?
Several national analysts have identified Baltimore as one of the best fits for Diggs.
NFL.com recently listed the Ravens as his ideal landing spot, citing Baltimore’s need for another proven veteran receiver opposite Flowers and Bateman. ESPN has also mentioned the Ravens as a logical destination because of Diggs’ ability to play both outside and in the slot.
Baltimore has shown a willingness to add veteran receivers in recent years. While the DeAndre Hopkins experiment never produced huge numbers, the organization has demonstrated it will pursue experienced pass catchers if the value is right.
The Concerns
There are legitimate reasons why Diggs remains unsigned.
Age is the biggest factor. He’ll turn 33 during the season, and few receivers maintain elite production deep into their 30s.
Financial considerations also matter. The Ravens have several future contract decisions to make, and committing significant money to an aging receiver may not fit their long-term plans.
There is also the reality that Baltimore remains one of the NFL’s most run-heavy offenses. Diggs would likely see fewer targets than he received in Buffalo or New England, requiring him to accept a different role.
Final Verdict
If Stefon Diggs is willing to sign a one- or two-year incentive-laden contract, the Ravens should absolutely make the call.
He would provide Lamar Jackson with another dependable target, mentor Baltimore’s young receivers, strengthen a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, and give Maryland fans the opportunity to watch one of the state’s greatest football players finish his career close to home.
The move wouldn’t be without risk, but the potential reward could be exactly what Baltimore needs to finally get over the hump in the AFC.
MSB Grade: B+
A short-term contract for Diggs makes sense for both sides. Baltimore adds another proven playmaker without sacrificing its long-term flexibility, while Diggs gets a chance to compete for a championship in his home state.
