Ravens made right move in not resigning Reed
The Baltimore Ravens are struggling this year but it has not been because of the loss of Ed Reed. Yes, Reed is an incredible leader and is a really smart football player. Over the years we have seen him decline and he simply wanted too much to return.
This season with the Houston Texans Reed has seen less and less playing time and is not even starting now. In six games with the Texans Reed has only had 16 tackles, and that is as far as his stat sheet has gone. Those numbers are surely not worth the price of $15 million over three years.
The Ravens current starting safeties Matt Elam and James Ihedigbo have played well this season and been great at making tackles. They have lacked the ball hawking skills of a young Reed but have been an improvement from the Reed of this year.
Ravens fans have a lot to complain about this season but this transaction is not one of them. Sure I would have liked Reed to retire as a Raven but in saying that he should have retired after the Super Bowl with Ray Lewis.
