Pat Reilly Fans Six as Chesapeake Baysox Fall 4-3 to Richmond Flying Squirrels

The Chesapeake Baysox surrendered a late lead and lost 4-3 to the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Friday, Aug. 21, in Bowie, Maryland. Chesapeake held a 2-1 advantage entering the eighth inning before Lisbel Diaz hit a three-run homer to put Richmond ahead 4-2.

The Baysox answered in the bottom of the eighth when Victor Figueroa hit an RBI single that scored Wehiwa Aloy and cut the deficit to 4-3. Richmond retired Chesapeake in order for the final five outs to secure the win.

Pat Reilly Delivers Another Strong Start

Chesapeake right-hander Pat Reilly allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out six across five innings. Charlie Szykowny gave Richmond a 1-0 lead with a two-out solo home run in the fourth inning, but it was the only run Reilly allowed.

The outing marked Reilly’s fifth Double-A start since he was activated from the 60-day injured list in late July. He has recorded at least six strikeouts in each of those five starts. Reilly also induced two of the three double plays turned by the Baysox, including one in the fifth inning that ended his outing.

Richmond Takes Advantage in the Eighth

Chesapeake moved in front in the fifth inning after two walks and a single loaded the bases with no outs. Frederick Bencosme and Aron Estrada followed with consecutive sacrifice flies to give the Baysox a 2-1 lead.

Right-hander Richard Guasch relieved Reilly in the sixth and pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Guasch has not allowed a run in his last four appearances or in 10 of his last 12 outings.

After a Richmond single and walk in the eighth, Diaz hit his first Double-A home run against right-hander Ryan Long. The three-run homer also gave Diaz his first three Double-A RBIs, while Long took the loss and was listed at 1-3.

Richmond right-hander Shane Rademacher earned the win and was listed at 2-2 after pitching one and one-third innings and allowing one run. Tyler Vogel recorded his 15th save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Chesapeake Baysox Set for Saturday Rematch

The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, will host the fifth of six games this week against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Saturday. Right-hander JT Quinn is scheduled to start for Chesapeake with a listed 0-0 record and a 2.23 ERA.

The Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are scheduled to counter with left-hander Charlie McDaniel, who is listed at 3-2 with a 5.23 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Prince George’s Stadium.

Chesapeake’s records were listed at 26-22 in the second half and 55-61 overall following Friday’s loss.
