Orioles Recap: Trevor Rogers Dominates as Baltimore Edges Dodgers 3-2

The Orioles bounced back in a big way Saturday night, defeating the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 at Dodger Stadium. The story of the game was left-hander Trevor Rogers, who delivered one of his best starts of the season and completely shut down one of baseball’s most dangerous lineups.

Rogers was outstanding from the first pitch. The left-hander carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and finished with seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, two walks, and striking out six. Against a lineup featuring stars such as Shohei Ohtani, Rogers consistently got ahead in counts and kept Dodgers hitters off balance all night.

The performance continued what has quietly become an excellent stretch for Rogers. After a difficult start to the season, the former All-Star has looked much more like the pitcher the Orioles hoped they were acquiring. Over his last several starts, Rogers has steadily lowered his ERA while giving Baltimore quality innings nearly every time out.

Orioles Get Just Enough Offense

Baltimore’s offense didn’t need a huge night thanks to Rogers.

The Orioles scratched across the game’s first run in the second inning before adding two more in the fourth. The biggest hit came from Blaze Alexander, whose two-run double gave Baltimore a 3-0 lead and ultimately proved to be the difference in the game.

Samuel Basallo and Leody Taveras each collected two hits as the Orioles pieced together enough offense against Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Entering the game, Yamamoto had been one of the best pitchers in baseball, making Baltimore’s timely hitting even more impressive.

Late Drama

The game nearly slipped away in the ninth inning.

After the Orioles bullpen held the lead through eight innings, Ohtani launched a home run in the ninth to cut the deficit to 3-1. A defensive mistake later in the inning allowed another Dodgers run to score, bringing the tying run all the way to third base.

With the game hanging in the balance, Yennier Cano recorded the final out with a strikeout to secure the victory and prevent another late-inning collapse. After Friday night’s heartbreaking loss, the Orioles desperately needed a clean finish.

Trevor Rogers Was the Difference

For Maryland Sports Blog readers, the biggest takeaway from this game is simple: Trevor Rogers looked like a frontline starter.

The Dodgers managed just one hit off Rogers over seven scoreless innings. The left-hander attacked the strike zone, limited hard contact, and never allowed Los Angeles to generate any sustained offense. Against one of baseball’s elite lineups on the road, Rogers gave Baltimore exactly the type of outing the club needed.

If Rogers can continue pitching at this level, Baltimore’s rotation suddenly becomes much more dangerous heading into the second half of the season. The Orioles have struggled to find consistency on the mound throughout 2026, but performances like Saturday’s provide hope that Rogers is turning the corner at the perfect time.

Final Thoughts

The Orioles improved to 36-42 with the victory and earned a much-needed win against one of baseball’s best teams. While Alexander delivered the key hit and Cano closed the door, this game belonged to Trevor Rogers. Seven scoreless innings against the Dodgers is the type of performance that can change the outlook of a season.

Player of the Game: Trevor Rogers
Final Line: 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K
Final Score: Orioles 3, Dodgers 2
