Orioles promote number two prospect Colton Cowser
The Baltimore Orioles have selected the contract of outfielder Colton Cowser and he will make his debut tonight against the New York Yankees. Cowser is ranked the number two prospect in the highly regarded minor league system, and the 14th rated prospect in the baseball.
The Orioles also optioned Ryan McKenna to AAA Norfolk, they designated both Anthony Bemboom and Chris Vallimont for assignment. I expect both Bemboom and Vallimont to clear waivers and get assigned to Norfolk. The Orioles also selected the contract of pitcher Eduard Bazardo.
It is a big moment for the Orioles who are struggling even after promoting another top prospect Jordan Westburg last week. Cowser is a Mike Elias kind of player, with 48 walks a .330 and ten home runs, Cowser has great plate discipline, power and speed.
Cowser is a five-tool player that does not have any real weaknesses. I expect Cowser to get daily playing time unlike some other prospects like Kyle Stowers who rarely got consistent at bats after being promoted. The Orioles continue to feed off a pool of elite prospect talent.
