Orioles Drop Series Finale to Padres, 5-2

The Baltimore Orioles missed a chance to win the series Sunday afternoon, falling 5-2 to the San Diego Padres at Camden Yards. The loss dropped Baltimore’s record to 34-39 and gave San Diego the series victory after the clubs split the first two games.

San Diego struck first in the second inning and never trailed. The Padres pieced together quality at-bats against Orioles starter Trevor Rogers and capitalized on timely hitting throughout the afternoon. Baltimore had opportunities but could not deliver the big hit when it mattered most.

Trevor Rogers actually turned in one of his better outings despite taking the loss. The left-hander worked six innings and kept the Orioles within striking distance for much of the game. Rogers allowed the Orioles offense a chance to come back, but Baltimore managed just two runs against Walker Buehler and the Padres bullpen.

The Orioles finally got on the board thanks to Jeremiah Jackson, who launched a solo home run. Jackson’s blast briefly energized the Camden Yards crowd and cut into the Padres lead. Gunnar Henderson added an RBI single later in the game, accounting for Baltimore’s other run. Henderson continued to be one of the few Orioles consistently producing offense during the series.

The difference came from San Diego catcher Rodolfo Duran. Filling in for the injured Freddy Fermin, Duran delivered the biggest blows of the game. He ripped an RBI double and later crushed a two-run homer estimated at 432 feet to left-center field. Those three RBIs doubled his season total and gave the Padres the cushion they needed.

Fernando Tatis Jr. also had a strong afternoon, collecting two hits and driving in two runs. Jackson Merrill added two hits as San Diego’s lineup consistently pressured Baltimore pitching. The Padres finished the series showing why they remain one of the National League’s more dangerous offensive clubs when their lineup gets rolling.

Walker Buehler earned the win for San Diego after throwing five innings of one-run baseball. The veteran right-hander did not issue a walk and struck out five Orioles hitters. Baltimore put runners on base but struggled to string together enough quality at-bats against him.

The Orioles had a late opportunity after Henderson’s RBI single trimmed the deficit, but Padres closer Mason Miller slammed the door. Miller recorded the final four outs and struck out three hitters while earning his 19th save of the season. Baltimore never seriously threatened after that.

Key Orioles Performers

  • Jeremiah Jackson: 1-for-4, HR, RBI
  • Gunnar Henderson: RBI single
  • Trevor Rogers: 6 IP, kept Orioles in the game despite the loss

Turning Point

The decisive moment came in the seventh inning when Duran launched a two-run homer. Instead of entering the late innings within a run, Baltimore suddenly faced a much steeper climb and could not recover.

Final Thoughts

Baltimore won the opener of the series but dropped the final two games. The Orioles scored just five runs combined over the last two contests while allowing 14. After an encouraging stretch earlier in the week, the offense cooled considerably against Padres pitching. The Orioles now head west looking to regroup before their next series, while San Diego leaves Baltimore with a hard-earned series victory.
