Orioles Crush Blue Jays 13-3 Behind Adley Rutschman, Coby Mayo Power Surge

8am

The Baltimore Orioles looked dead in the water early Friday night in Toronto. After falling behind 3-1 through four innings, Baltimore’s offense exploded for 12 unanswered runs and rolled to a dominant 13-3 victory over the Blue Jays in one of its most complete performances of the season.

The win continued Baltimore’s recent hot streak and showcased exactly why this lineup remains dangerous when its young stars get rolling. The Orioles have now won five of their last six games.

Early Trouble for Baltimore

Toronto struck first after Adley Rutschman’s solo home run opened the scoring. The Blue Jays answered quickly, eventually taking a 3-1 lead thanks to a three-run stretch that included a two-run homer from Brandon Valenzuela. For a few innings, it looked like the Orioles might waste another strong start from Brandon Young.

Young settled down after the rough stretch and kept Baltimore within striking distance. The right-hander worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs while giving the offense time to wake up.

Sixth Inning Changes Everything

The game completely flipped in the sixth inning.

Baltimore erupted for five runs, turning a 3-1 deficit into a 6-3 lead. The biggest swing came from Coby Mayo, who launched a massive two-run homer that silenced the Toronto crowd and gave the Orioles complete momentum.

Mayo continues to show why Baltimore has remained patient with the young slugger. After a slow start to the season, his power has started showing up consistently, and Friday’s blast was another reminder of the impact he can have in the middle of the lineup.

Adley Rutschman Has a Monster Night

While Mayo delivered the knockout punch, Adley Rutschman was the star of the game.

The Orioles catcher finished a perfect 4-for-4 with:

  • Home run
  • Two doubles
  • Five RBIs
  • Four hits

Every time Baltimore needed a big hit, Rutschman seemed to provide it. The former No. 1 overall pick drove the offense all night and looked like the franchise cornerstone Orioles fans have come to expect.

Orioles Keep Pouring It On

Baltimore wasn’t finished after the sixth.

The Orioles added insurance runs in the eighth and then completely buried Toronto with a huge ninth inning. Contributions came throughout the lineup, including RBI production from Jeremiah Jackson, Colton Cowser and Leody Taveras. A Blue Jays throwing error only added to the damage as Baltimore turned a close game into a blowout.

By the final out, the Orioles had scored 13 runs and piled up one of their best offensive performances of the season. Toronto was forced to use backup catcher Tyler Heineman to record the final out after the game got completely out of hand.

Injury Concern: Samuel Basallo Leaves Game

The only negative development for Baltimore came in the sixth inning.

Rookie designated hitter Samuel Basallo exited the game with right abdominal discomfort and was replaced by Jeremiah Jackson. No immediate severity was announced after the game, but the Orioles will undoubtedly monitor the situation closely.

Basallo entered the game hitting .273 with nine home runs and 26 RBIs this season and has become a key part of Baltimore’s lineup. Any extended absence would be a significant loss.

Orioles Trending Up

The Orioles continue to get production from the exact players they need most:

  • Adley Rutschman delivered a five-RBI masterpiece.
  • Coby Mayo crushed another clutch home run.
  • Brandon Young provided a quality start.
  • The bullpen shut the door.
  • The offense scored 13 runs on the road.

If Baltimore keeps getting this version of Rutschman and Mayo, the club’s recent climb back toward contention could continue deep into the summer.

Final Score: Baltimore Orioles 13, Toronto Blue Jays 3.

Player of the Game: Adley Rutschman — 4-for-4, HR, 2 doubles, 5 RBIs.

Biggest Moment: Coby Mayo’s two-run homer during Baltimore’s game-changing five-run sixth inning.

Injury Watch: Samuel Basallo exited with right abdominal discomfort.
