O’s bats come alive, Baltimore splits Beltway Series: Recap 7/17/19

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Washington Nationals 9–2 Wednesday night to split the two-game Beltway Series at Camden Yards.

Aaron Brooks started on the mound for the Orioles but only pitched 2.2 innings. The 29-year-old allowed one earned run off two hits.

In the top of the third inning, a Víctor Robles single led to bases loaded with one out, after two straight walked batters. Robles managed to score off Adam Eaton’s sacrifice fly to give the Nationals an early 1-0 lead.

After an infield single by Anthony Rendon to load the bases again with two outs, Brooks was relieved by Gabriel Ynoa. With the bases loaded and a full count on Juan Soto, Ynoa forced a fly out to center field to end the inning at 1–0 Nationals.

In the bottom of the fourth inning with one out, Trey Mancini launched a home run to center field to tie the game at 1–1. The solo shot is Mancini’s 18th home run of the season.

With two outs in the seventh, Rio Ruiz hit a sacrifice fly to center field, and Santander dove head-first into home to beat the throw home. The O’s took a 4–2 lead heading into the eighth inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Mancini hit his second home run of the game and 70th of his career, with a two-run shot to left field. This gave the O’s a 6–2 lead and added crucial run support for Baltimore to finish out the game with a victory. Mancini finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs.
