Mount St. Mary’s Unveils 2026 Men’s Soccer Schedule: Mountaineers Face Challenging Road to MAAC Success

The countdown to the 2026 season has officially begun for the Mount St. Mary’s men’s soccer program.

Head coach Brian Pensky and the Mountaineers have announced the program’s 2026 schedule, featuring a demanding mix of regional non-conference opponents and a competitive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) slate. The schedule is designed to prepare the Mount for another run at the MAAC Tournament while continuing to build one of the conference’s rising programs.

After gaining valuable experience over the past several seasons, the Mount enters 2026 looking to climb the conference standings. The non-conference schedule provides several early tests before league play begins, while the MAAC schedule will once again feature matchups against many of the conference’s top programs.

Strong Non-Conference Schedule

The Mountaineers won’t have much time to ease into the season.

Opening with several difficult opponents should help prepare Mount St. Mary’s for the intensity of conference competition. Regional rivalries once again headline the non-conference slate, giving fans several attractive home matches while minimizing travel.

The coaching staff has consistently scheduled quality opponents to challenge the roster before MAAC play begins, and 2026 follows that philosophy.

MAAC Play Will Determine the Season

Conference play begins on Sept. 19 and quickly becomes the primary focus.

The MAAC continues to be one of the most balanced conferences in NCAA Division I men’s soccer, where nearly every match has postseason implications. Programs such as Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Rider, Siena, Niagara and Marist have consistently battled for conference championships, leaving little margin for error.

Protecting home field at Waldron Family Stadium will be critical if the Mount hopes to qualify for the MAAC Tournament.

Home Field Could Be a Difference Maker

The Mount hosts several important conference matches throughout the fall, including contests against Sacred Heart, Fairfield, Rider, Merrimack, Iona and Canisius.

Those home dates could ultimately determine the Mountaineers’ postseason fate. A strong record in Emmitsburg would significantly improve the team’s chances of earning one of the conference’s tournament berths.

Winning on the road will be equally important, however, with challenging trips to Quinnipiac, Siena, Marist, Niagara and Manhattan awaiting the Mount.

Players to Watch

While the official preseason roster will not be finalized until August, the Mount returns several experienced players from last season while welcoming an incoming recruiting class expected to compete for immediate playing time.

Preseason camp should feature intense competition across the field as players battle for starting positions. The coaching staff will also evaluate several newcomers who could make an immediate impact.

Season Outlook

The 2026 schedule presents a balanced challenge for Mount St. Mary’s. The early non-conference games will prepare the Mountaineers for the rigors of MAAC competition, while a favorable home schedule gives the team an opportunity to build momentum throughout conference play.

If the Mount can establish consistency, defend its home field and earn valuable road points, the program has a legitimate opportunity to compete for a MAAC Tournament berth and continue its steady rise within the conference.

MSB Take

This is exactly the type of schedule Mount St. Mary’s needs. The non-conference slate should sharpen the team before league play, while every MAAC match will have postseason implications. If the Mount can capitalize on its home schedule and steal a few road victories, don’t be surprised if the Mountaineers are playing meaningful soccer well into November.
