Maryland Lands Four-Star Safety Kenaz Sullivan: Full Background, Recruiting Profile and High School Stats

Maryland football landed a major 2027 defensive commitment when four-star safety Kenaz Sullivan pledged to the Terrapins during his official visit to College Park. Sullivan is listed by 247Sports at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds and is rated as a four-star prospect, ranked No. 239 nationally, No. 17 among safeties and No. 4 in Virginia.

Sullivan is from Stafford, Virginia, and is now listed with The St. James in Springfield, Virginia, after previously playing at North Stafford High School. On3/Rivals lists Sullivan at 6-foot, 195 pounds, No. 236 nationally, No. 18 at safety and No. 4 in Virginia in the Rivals Industry Ranking.

Why This Commitment Matters

This is a strong recruiting win for Mike Locksley and Maryland because Sullivan chose the Terps over national programs including Florida, Ohio State and Tennessee. Maryland was also reportedly Sullivan’s first offer, and that long relationship helped push the Terps over the top.

Assistant coaches Aazaar Abdul-Rahim and James Thomas were heavily involved in Sullivan’s recruitment. Sullivan committed while on his official visit from June 18-20, giving Maryland one of its biggest early pieces in the 2027 class.

High School Production

Sullivan has been a two-way standout.

As a junior at North Stafford in 2025, Sullivan reportedly totaled:

  • 85 tackles
  • Nine pass breakups
  • Four interceptions
  • Two forced fumbles
  • 32 catches
  • 808 receiving yards
  • Seven receiving touchdowns
  • Four rushing touchdowns
  • 8.7 yards per carry

Across two varsity seasons, Sullivan has reportedly produced:

  • 152 tackles
  • 18 pass breakups
  • Seven interceptions
  • Three forced fumbles
  • Five tackles for loss

There are slight stat differences between recruiting services. On3’s high school report credited Sullivan with 85 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups and two interceptions during his junior season, while 247Sports listed four interceptions and nine pass breakups.

Player Profile

Sullivan projects as a modern Big Ten safety because of his size, range and versatility. Maryland is not just getting a deep safety. The Terps are getting a defensive back who has shown the ability to tackle, cover, play the ball and contribute offensively.

The offensive production matters because it shows Sullivan’s overall athletic profile. A safety with 808 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches has natural ball skills. That is the kind of trait that translates well to defending Big Ten passing attacks.

MSB Take

Maryland needs to keep winning recruiting battles in the DMV and Mid-Atlantic. Sullivan is exactly the kind of player Locksley’s staff has to land: local-region talent, four-star profile, Power Four offers and a clear path to early playing time.

This commitment gives Maryland’s 2027 class real momentum. Sullivan has the size and production to become one of the future faces of the Terps’ secondary.
