Kris Sutherland and Chris Lee should never ref another NHL game
The Washington Capitals lost to the Carolina Hurricanes 2 to 1 in game four of the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Capitals lost T.J. Oshie one of their best players late in the game on a boarding call.
Referees Kelly Sutherland and Chris Lee nearly called nothing as they took their time before calling a penalty. When they called the penalty they called a two minute minor. The play was obviously a play that should have been a five minute major boarding penalty.
Hurricanes Warren Foegele is the player that boarded Oshie and it was blatantly obvious he caught Oshie in a defenseless position.
The department of players safety needs to come down hard on Foegele, who injured Oshie. Oshie may miss the rest of the playoffs on a completely dirty play.
The thing is Sutherland and Lee saw it happened and if Oshie was not hurt they would have called nothing. The NHL needs to discipline Sutherland and Lee or straight up fire them. If Sutherland and Lee do not know what an obvious boarding call is, why let them on the ice to ref. Replace them, because that is one of the worst non calls I have ever scene. Decide for yourself. The referees clearly saw the play and wanted to ignore it.
If I did what Foegele did at any level of hockey it would have been a major. The Department of Players safety needs to step up and suspend Foegele for at least three games.
