Heston Kjerstad named Arizona Fall League MVP

Baltimore Orioles prospect Heston Kjerstad was named the MVP of the Arizona Fall League. Kjerstad has had a delayed devolepment due to a heart condition that he needed surgery for. Kjestad then had a minor injury at the start of last season. Wanting to get Kjerstad back on the development track the Orioles elected to send Kjerstad to the Arizona Fall League.

In 22 games in the Fall League Kjerstad batted .357 with five home runs, nine doubles and one triple. It was an impressive short season for Kjerstad. The Orioles drafted Kjerstad with the second overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft and is one of their top power hitting outfield prospects.

At age 23 Kjerstad still has time to develop, he spent last season at low A and A ball playing for the Aberdeen Ironbirds and Delmarva Shorebirds.

If healthy I can see Kjerstad starting at High A ball or Double A ball. Kjerstad is in a crowed outfield prospect line so their is no rush for his development. I do not think Orioles GM Mike Elias would be quick to move on from Kjerstad at the spot that he selected him at. The Arizona Fall League was a good call for Kjerstad’s development.
