Hess leading league in bad way

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher David Hess has struggled this season.

Hess currently has a record of 1-5, which of course is not good. He has given up 14 home runs in nine games, eight of which were starts, which leads the entire major leagues.

Hess has been rocked by home runs, a lot of which have been solo shots. The Orioles have to make a decision on Hess soon because they can not keep throwing him out there to get pummeled.

Hess has decent stuff, but it seems like every mistake he makes is tagged for a deep shot.

Hess has options, so the Orioles can simply option him to Triple-A Norfolk to work on some things. The thing is, besides the home runs, Hess usually pitches decent. He has actually only given up 38 hits, but nearly half of those hits were home runs.

Hess has a 5.58 ERA which will not get him many wins at the major league level.

Last season, Hess gave up 22 home runs in 21 games, 19 of which were starts. It is a bad history of giving up more than a home run per game that may have Hess heading back to the minors.

I think Hess can be a good major league pitcher, he just needs to limit the mistakes. If he has another bad game, I think the Orioles need to send him to Norfolk.

Right now, Hess has a home run problem, and he needs to fix it.
