Gunnar Henderson named Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year

Baltimore Orioles infielder Gunnar Henderson was named Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year for 2022. Henderson has got off to a hot start that lasted all season between AA Bowie and AAA Norfolk.

Henderson played at the Futures game and eventually worked his way into being the number one prospect in baseball.

Henderson’s hit for a .297 average, 19 home runs and had 79 walks between AAA and AA before getting promoted to the Majors in early September. Henderson’s gets it done with more than just hitting, he plays very good defense at shortstop and third base. Henderson also stole 22 bases in the minors to go along with his power numbers.

Since joining the Orioles Henderson has been one of, if not the Orioles best hitter already being inserted on a daily basis at the top or middle of the lineup.

The Orioles farm system has become elite since GM Mike Elias took over and Henderson’s development is just one example of that.

Here is an interview from Roch Kubatko on MASN with Henderson.
