Dez Bryant turned down multi-year deal from the Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens recently offered Dez Bryant a multi-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport.   The Ravens have always like Bryant and orginially wanted to draft him.  Bryant however wanted a large one-year deal in hopes that next season he can score a big contract.

Bryant is coming off just a six toughdown season.  Bryant has not had a strong season since 2014 when he score 16 receiving touchdowns and had 1320 receiving yards.

Bryant’s numbers have been good but not fantastic since then.  The common assumption is that Bryant physically has been in decline and only had a 52.3% catch rate.

The Ravens wanted Bryant but for him to fit under the salary cap the Ravens needed him at a multi-year deal.  I think Bryant can still play at a high level.  The Ravens responded to the Bryant turn down by signing Willie Snead.

I think the Ravens lucked out by getting turned down by Bryant.   The Ravens have completely retooled their receiving core and this upcoming draft is wide receiver heavy.  Also, Michael Crabtree and Bryant combined would be two great Red Zone threats but they are two slower receivers.

As for Bryant hoping he gets a big contract next season.  Bryant is not getting any younger and Bryant will be in his early 30’s.  For a big physical receiver usually they start to decline before that.  Of course there have been several exceptions like Anquan Boldin.
