D.C. United Falls 3-0 to New England Revolution as Alhassan Yusuf Scores Hat Trick

D.C. United lost 3-0 to the New England Revolution on Wednesday night at Audi Field as Alhassan Yusuf scored all three goals. The result left D.C. United with 24 points and a 5-6-9 record on the season.

New England takes control after early D.C. United pressure

D.C. United controlled the early play and created several chances in the opening minutes. Matti Peltola had an effort blocked in the fifth minute, Jackson Hopkins was denied from the center of the box, and Kimito Nono headed just wide in the seventh minute.

D.C. United produced three attempts during a 20th-minute sequence, but Silvan Hefti and Hopkins were blocked before New England goalkeeper Matt Turner stopped a close-range header from Nono. The New England Revolution opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Peyton Miller headed the ball across the six-yard box for Yusuf, who finished from close range.

D.C. United kept coming, with Lucas Bartlett shooting just wide in the 30th minute and Louis Munteanu going close twice before halftime. Sean Johnson stopped a Carles Gil attempt in the 42nd minute, but Yusuf scored again in first-half stoppage time off a Jack Harrison cross to give New England a 2-0 lead at halftime.

D.C. United head coach René Weiler made a double substitution at halftime, bringing on Brandon Servania and Nathan Ordaz for Sean Nealis and Jackson Hopkins. Nono nearly cut into the deficit in the 49th minute, but his right-footed shot went narrowly past the top-right corner.

Johnson made several saves during New England pressure in the second half, denying Dor Turgeman twice and pushing away another Gil effort. Yusuf completed his hat trick in the 66th minute with a header from another Harrison cross.

D.C. United continued pressing late in the match. Nikola Markovic and Hosei Kijima entered in the 68th minute, while Ordaz forced a save from Turner three minutes later and Tai Baribo headed a Keisuke Kurokawa cross wide. Bartlett came closest in the final stages, forcing Turner into a low save off an Andre Dozzell cross in the 87th minute.

D.C. United will travel to face Charlotte FC on Saturday, August 22, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
