Akron RubberDucks Series

The week began at Prince George’s Stadium against one of the Eastern League’s strongest clubs.

Akron entered the series boasting one of the league’s most productive offenses, and the RubberDucks immediately demonstrated why.

June 5: RubberDucks 19, Baysox 3

This was simply one of those nights where nothing went right.

Akron’s offense erupted early and never slowed down. The RubberDucks pounded Baysox pitching throughout the game, finishing with 19 runs in one of Chesapeake’s most lopsided defeats of the season.

Luis De León struggled to locate consistently and Akron capitalized. The RubberDucks consistently put runners on base and delivered timely hits throughout the evening.

Alfonsin Rosario was the biggest culprit.

The Akron slugger launched two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in seven runs. Every time Chesapeake seemed poised to escape an inning, Rosario found another way to inflict damage.

Despite the final score, Chesapeake’s offense showed occasional signs of life. The Baysox collected several hard-hit balls but struggled to string together rallies.

The game served as an early reminder of how competitive Double-A baseball can be.

June 6: RubberDucks 6, Baysox 1

The Baysox hoped to bounce back Saturday.

Instead, Akron’s pitching staff took center stage.

Chesapeake managed just one run and struggled to generate consistent offense. Akron pitchers consistently got ahead in counts, forcing Baysox hitters into defensive swings.

Several Chesapeake hitters reached base, but the club went quiet with runners in scoring position.

The Baysox left multiple opportunities on the table and never mounted a serious comeback.

While the offense struggled, several prospects continued showing positive signs despite the loss.

Griff O’Ferrall continued making contact.

Adam Retzbach worked quality at-bats.

The final score did not reflect the competitiveness of several innings, but Chesapeake still found itself staring at an 0-2 week.

June 7: Baysox 4, RubberDucks 2

The Baysox finally broke through Sunday.

Facing the possibility of being swept, Chesapeake delivered one of its most complete performances of the week.

The pitching staff set the tone.

Baysox pitchers consistently attacked the strike zone and limited Akron’s opportunities. The defense backed them up with clean baseball and several strong plays in key situations.

After Akron tied the game with a two-run home run from Jacob Cozart, Chesapeake immediately answered.

The Baysox pushed across the go-ahead runs and never relinquished the lead.

Evan Yates earned the victory.

Zane Barnhart slammed the door shut in the ninth inning for the save.

The win prevented a sweep and gave Chesapeake momentum heading into its road trip.

Road Trip to Altoona

After finishing the Akron series, the Baysox traveled to Pennsylvania for a matchup against the Altoona Curve.

The series would quickly become the highlight of the week.

June 9: Baysox 11, Curve 4

This was Chesapeake’s best offensive performance of the week.

The Baysox exploded for 11 runs and overwhelmed Altoona pitching.

Frederick Bencosme put together one of the finest performances by any Baysox player this season.

The talented infielder finished with four hits and two home runs.

Every time Chesapeake needed a big hit, Bencosme seemed to provide it.

Adam Retzbach joined the party.

The catcher drove in five runs and blasted a three-run home run that helped put the game out of reach.

The Baysox lineup was relentless.

Multiple hitters recorded multi-hit games.

The club consistently pressured Altoona’s pitching staff and forced mistakes throughout the evening.

On the mound, Sebastian Gongora delivered six strong innings.

The right-hander allowed only two runs while striking out several hitters and consistently working ahead in counts.

By the time the final out was recorded, Chesapeake had secured one of its most impressive wins of the season.

Bencosme’s Breakout Performance

No Baysox player had a bigger week than Frederick Bencosme.

The 21-year-old infielder showcased exactly why Orioles scouts remain excited about his future.

His four-hit, two-home-run performance against Altoona was a glimpse of the offensive upside that has made him one of the more intriguing prospects in Baltimore’s system.

Bencosme combines bat speed, athleticism, and defensive versatility.

When everything is working, he looks like a future major-league contributor.

This week may have been his best stretch of the season.

June 10: Curve 10, Baysox 3

The momentum from Monday’s victory did not last long.

Altoona jumped on Chesapeake pitching early and built a substantial lead before the Baysox offense could respond.

The Curve scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Chesapeake attempted to chip away but struggled to slow down Altoona’s lineup.

Tavian Josenberger supplied the biggest offensive highlight.

The outfielder launched a home run while continuing to showcase the power-speed combination that makes him one of the organization’s most athletic prospects.

Griff O’Ferrall also enjoyed a productive night.

The shortstop collected two hits and stole two bases.

His speed continues creating problems for opposing defenses.

Despite those individual performances, the Baysox fell 10-3.

June 11: Baysox 4, Curve 0

The Baysox closed the week on a high note.

The pitching staff delivered one of its best performances of the season, blanking Altoona 4-0.

Chesapeake pitchers combined for the shutout and consistently kept Curve hitters off balance.

The offense supplied enough support early before the bullpen finished the job.

The victory allowed Chesapeake to secure a split of the Altoona series and finish the week at .500.

More importantly, it showcased the type of complete baseball the Baysox are capable of playing.
