The Chesapeake Baysox will host Baltimore Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo during his MLB rehab assignment Tuesday night at Prince George’s Stadium. The assignment is being transferred from Triple-A Norfolk to Double-A Chesapeake, in conjunction with the Baltimore Orioles.
Basallo is set to join the Baysox as they open a six-game home series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

Basallo began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, going 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI while catching the first seven innings.
The 22-year-old turned 22 years old on August 13, 2026. He has spent the entire 2026 season on the Baltimore Orioles’ roster, playing in 86 games. He is batting .241 with 16 home runs, 46 RBI and a .755 OPS but hasn’t played since July 19, three days after the All-Star Break.
Samuel Basallo’s Chesapeake Baysox History
Basallo originally joined the Baysox on September 12, 2023, when he was called up from High-A Aberdeen for the final week of the regular season. He played in 106 games for Chesapeake in 2024, batting .289 with 22 doubles, 16 home runs and 55 RBI.
He was selected for the 2024 MLB All-Star Futures Game in Arlington, Texas, and earned promotion to Triple-A Norfolk on August 27, 2024. Following the season, he was named the Eastern League’s Top MLB Prospect for 2024.
Basallo made his major league debut on August 17, 2025, becoming the 227th former Baysox player to reach the majors.
