Calvert Hall Cardinals Baseball 2026 Season Recap: Cardinals Battle Through Brutal MIAA Schedule, Finish 25-8

The 2026 season added another successful chapter to the storied history of Calvert Hall baseball. Competing in the nation’s toughest high school baseball conference, the MIAA A Conference, the Cardinals once again proved they belonged among Maryland’s elite programs.
Under head coach Brooks Kerr, Calvert Hall finished the season 25-8 overall and 16-5 in conference play, spending much of the spring near the top of the MIAA standings. The Cardinals combined strong pitching, timely hitting, veteran leadership, and outstanding defense to earn another playoff berth and remain in championship contention throughout the season.
Although the year ended with a postseason loss to Archbishop Spalding, the Cardinals once again demonstrated why Calvert Hall remains one of Maryland’s premier baseball programs.

- Road Record: 11-4
- MIAA A Conference Finish: Second Place
- MIAA Playoff Appearance
In a conference featuring national-caliber programs such as Archbishop Spalding, Mount St. Joseph, Loyola Blakefield, Gilman, Archbishop Curley, and McDonogh, posting a 25-win season is a significant accomplishment.
The Cardinals consistently found ways to win close games while also showing the ability to dominate opponents when all phases of their game were clicking.
Fast Start Builds Momentum
Calvert Hall entered the season with high expectations and quickly showed why many considered the Cardinals legitimate championship contenders.
Strong pitching performances and disciplined at-bats helped the Cardinals establish momentum early in the year. Several non-conference victories prepared the team for the grind of MIAA play, where every series felt like a playoff matchup.
A dominant 9-0 victory over St. John’s highlighted the team’s potential. The Cardinals received quality pitching, sharp defense, and an efficient offensive attack in one of their most complete performances of the spring.
As conference play intensified, Calvert Hall continued stacking victories and remained near the top of the standings throughout the season.
Surviving the MIAA Gauntlet
Few leagues in America compare to the MIAA A Conference.
Every week brought another challenge against some of the best programs in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region. There were no easy games and no opportunities to relax.
The Cardinals embraced the challenge.
Calvert Hall’s 16-5 conference record was one of the league’s best marks and helped secure a second-place finish in the standings.
Throughout the season, the Cardinals displayed remarkable consistency.
Pitching limited scoring opportunities.
Defense prevented big innings.
The offense delivered timely hits when opportunities presented themselves.
That balance allowed Calvert Hall to remain among the conference’s elite teams from Opening Day through the postseason.
Signature Victory Against Spalding
One of the biggest moments of the season came when Calvert Hall knocked off Archbishop Spalding 5-4.
The victory served notice that the Cardinals could compete with any team in Maryland. Spalding eventually emerged as one of the state’s top programs, making the win even more impressive as the season progressed.
The Cardinals showcased resilience, composure, and championship-level execution in one of their signature victories of the year.
Players Who Powered the Cardinals
Ethan Frank
Senior outfielder Ethan Frank entered the season as one of the leaders of the Cardinals and helped set the tone throughout the year.
The PennWest Clarion commit brought experience, athleticism, and leadership to every aspect of the game. Frank’s ability to impact games both offensively and defensively made him one of Calvert Hall’s most important players.
His veteran presence was invaluable during the toughest stretches of conference play.
Luke Kreiner
Another key veteran was senior outfielder Luke Kreiner.
The PennWest Clarion commit provided stability in the lineup and strong defense in the outfield. Kreiner’s leadership and consistency helped the Cardinals navigate the challenges of one of the nation’s most difficult schedules.
Anthony Williams
Few players on the roster possessed more upside than junior Anthony Williams.
The Duke commit starred as both a third baseman and pitcher, giving Calvert Hall a versatile weapon capable of impacting games in multiple ways.
Williams emerged as one of Maryland’s premier prospects and is expected to be a cornerstone of the Cardinals program heading into 2027.
Hunter Dunst
The pitching staff received a major boost from junior right-hander Hunter Dunst.
The East Tennessee State commit helped anchor the rotation and gave Calvert Hall a reliable arm against elite competition. Dunst’s development throughout the season was one of the biggest reasons for the Cardinals’ success.
The Next Generation
Several younger players gained valuable experience during the 2026 campaign.
Jake Linsey, Drew Kittelberger, Brayden Rivera, and Grayson Ryan all contributed to the team’s success while positioning themselves for larger roles next season.
Their development gives Calvert Hall reason for optimism as the program looks ahead to another championship chase.
Pitching and Defense Lead the Way
Championship teams are built around pitching and defense, and the Cardinals excelled in both areas.
The pitching staff consistently threw strikes, limited free passes, and worked out of difficult situations. Opposing offenses rarely received easy scoring opportunities.
Behind the pitchers, Calvert Hall’s defense was among the best in the conference.
The Cardinals routinely converted difficult plays into outs and minimized mistakes. Strong communication and fundamentals helped prevent opponents from generating momentum.
That combination of pitching and defense allowed Calvert Hall to remain competitive even when the offense wasn’t at its best.
Playoff Push Falls Short
The Cardinals entered the postseason believing they had the talent to capture an MIAA championship.
Unfortunately, their season came to an end against a talented Archbishop Spalding squad that caught fire at the right time.
Calvert Hall suffered consecutive playoff losses to Spalding, ending what had been another outstanding season.
While the finish was disappointing, it should not overshadow the accomplishments of the team.
Winning 25 games in the MIAA A Conference is a testament to the talent, preparation, and culture within the program.
Brooks Kerr Continues Winning Tradition
The foundation of Calvert Hall baseball remains head coach Brooks Kerr.
Year after year, Kerr has built teams capable of competing for championships. His emphasis on player development, accountability, and fundamentals has made the Cardinals one of Maryland’s most respected programs.
The 2026 season was another example of that success.
Looking Ahead to 2027
The future remains bright.
Anthony Williams, Hunter Dunst, Jake Linsey, Drew Kittelberger, Brayden Rivera, and Grayson Ryan headline a group of returning players who should keep the Cardinals among the MIAA favorites next spring.
With a strong returning core and one of the best coaching staffs in Maryland, Calvert Hall should once again enter the season with championship aspirations.
Final Grade: A-
The Cardinals may have fallen short of an MIAA title, but a 25-8 record, second-place conference finish, and another deep playoff run make 2026 a successful season.
Calvert Hall once again proved it belongs among Maryland’s baseball elite and laid the groundwork for another championship pursuit in 2027.
