Bowie State Volleyball Sets Sights on 2026 Success with Challenging Schedule

The road to the 2026 CIAA Volleyball Championship is officially set for Bowie State University.

The Bulldogs unveiled their 2026 women’s volleyball schedule on Tuesday, giving head coach Edric Poitier’s program a balanced slate that features nonconference tests, home matches inside A.C. Jordan Arena, and a demanding Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) schedule as Bowie State looks to continue building toward conference contention.

After showing steady growth over the past several seasons, the Bulldogs enter 2026 with optimism. The schedule is designed to prepare Bowie State for the always-competitive CIAA race while also giving the team opportunities to gain momentum early in the season.

Strong Nonconference Tests

Bowie State opens preseason competition with an exhibition at Carroll Community College before beginning the regular season later in August.

The Bulldogs will also face several quality regional opponents before conference play begins. Those early contests should help Bowie State identify its strengths while preparing for the physical style of CIAA volleyball.

Nonconference matches often serve as valuable measuring sticks, allowing teams to develop chemistry, evaluate lineups, and gain experience before the standings begin to matter.

CIAA Schedule Will Define the Season

Conference play once again will be the centerpiece of the Bulldogs’ season.

Every CIAA match carries significant postseason implications, and Bowie State will be looking to improve its position in one of the nation’s strongest HBCU volleyball conferences.

Among the highlights are home contests against several longtime conference rivals, giving Bulldog fans multiple opportunities to support the team inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The regular season concludes in early November before the CIAA Volleyball Championship Tournament, where every team hopes to earn the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Building the Program

Bowie State has emphasized player development, recruiting, and consistency in recent years. The Bulldogs have steadily become more competitive throughout the CIAA while continuing to develop student-athletes on and off the court.

The 2026 roster will feature a blend of returning experience and young talent looking to make an immediate impact.

Success in the CIAA often comes down to defensive consistency, serving efficiency, and limiting errors. If Bowie State can improve in those areas while taking advantage of its home court, the Bulldogs could emerge as a legitimate contender during the conference season.

Matches to Watch

Some of the biggest dates on the 2026 schedule include:

  • Exhibition at Carroll Community College
  • Season-opening nonconference tournament play
  • CIAA home opener
  • Key conference matchups against division rivals
  • Final regular-season contests leading into the CIAA Tournament

Each stretch of the schedule presents different challenges, but the Bulldogs will have opportunities to build momentum throughout the fall.

MSB Take

Bowie State continues to trend in the right direction as one of Maryland’s premier HBCU athletic programs. Volleyball may not receive the same attention as football or basketball, but the Bulldogs continue investing in the program, and the 2026 schedule reflects that commitment.

The early nonconference slate should prepare Bowie State well for the grind of CIAA competition. If the Bulldogs can protect their home floor, win the close five-set matches, and stay healthy, this team has the potential to make noise when the conference tournament begins.

For Maryland volleyball fans, Bowie State remains a program worth following throughout the fall.
