Bowie Baysox Roundup: April 5-13

BOWIE, Md. – Here are the scores and players of note from the first eight games played by the 2018 Bowie Baysox as they compete in the Eastern League (AA) Western Division.

Thursday, April 5th – 10-9 Loss (13 innings) at home vs Harrisburg

Friday, April 6th – 7-1 Win at home vs Harrisburg

Saturday, April 7th – 4-0 Loss at home vs Harrisburg

Sunday, April 8th – 6-4 Win at home vs Harrisburg

Monday, April 9th – 4-3 Win at home vs Erie

Tuesday, April 10th – 5-4 Win at home vs Erie

Wednesday, April 11th – 5-4 Win at home vs Erie

Friday, April 13th – 5-1 Loss at Harrisburg

Overall, the Baysox are tied for 2nd place with a 5-3 record and only 1/2 game behind first-place Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh), who have a 5-2 record going into play on Saturday, April 14th.

The team is hitting a collective .240 and they are being led by C Martin Cervenka, who has started the season hitting .360 (9 for 25).

CF Cedric Mullins and CF Austin Hays each lead the team with two home runs a piece and Mullins has the team lead in RBIs, with 8.

On the pitching side, SP Christian Binford went 6 innings in his first start of the season and only gave up 1 earned run on five hits, walking one and striking out five.

SP Jordan Kipper has a 3.38 ERA after his first two starts, only give up 4 earned runs in 10.2 IP and SP John Means has a 3.97 ERA with 5 earned runs in 11.1 IP.

The combination of RP Tanner Chleboard, Luis Ysla, Luis Gonzalez and Paul Fry have collectively gone 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA (though they have given up 2 unearned runs) in 17 IP with 23 Ks.

Bowie continues it’s three-game series at Harrisburg with games Saturday night and Sunday afternoon before heading to Richmond for a four-game series.  They return home on Friday, April 20th, when they open up a three-game series against Akron.
