Coppin State Women’s Basketball Announces Ambitious 2026-27 Schedule, Highlighted by Historic Tennessee Visit

Coppin State women’s basketball will face one of its most challenging schedules in recent memory during the 2026-27 season, highlighted by a historic home game against eight-time national champion Tennessee at the Physical Education Complex Arena in Baltimore.

The Eagles officially announced their upcoming schedule on Aug. 12, with Tennessee’s visit on Thursday, Nov. 5 serving as the centerpiece of a non-conference slate that also includes Maryland, West Virginia, Rutgers, SMU and several strong mid-major programs. Coppin State will play five Power Conference opponents before getting into the heart of MEAC competition.

The Tennessee matchup will be one of the biggest home games in Coppin State women’s basketball history. It will mark the sixth consecutive season in which Coppin State has hosted a Power Conference opponent, continuing an aggressive scheduling philosophy that gives the Eagles opportunities against nationally recognized programs.

Coppin State opens the regular season at home against Cheyney on Monday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. Tennessee comes to Baltimore three nights later for a 7 p.m. tipoff at PEC Arena. Both early-season home games are scheduled to air on the MEAC Network.

A three-game road swing follows with visits to Central Connecticut State on Nov. 9, Hofstra on Nov. 11 and Maryland on Nov. 18. The matchup in College Park gives Coppin State another opportunity to test itself against a Power Conference opponent while remaining close to home.

William & Mary visits Baltimore on Nov. 24 before the Eagles head to the 4 Tha Culture Holiday Classic in Richmond, Virginia. Coppin State will face VCU on Nov. 27 and Richmond on Nov. 28 at the Henrico Sports & Events Center. November closes with a Nov. 30 road game against West Virginia in Morgantown.

December begins with another local matchup when Towson visits PEC Arena on Dec. 3. Coppin State then travels to UMBC and LIU before returning home to face Monmouth. The Eagles finish the non-conference portion with three consecutive road tests against Rutgers, SMU and Dayton.

Conference play begins Jan. 2 against Delaware State in Baltimore. Coppin State will play a home-and-away schedule against the MEAC, while also fitting non-conference home games against Lincoln (Pa.) and Washington Adventist into the second half of the season.

Two dates in particular stand out during conference play. North Carolina Central comes to West Baltimore for Homecoming on Feb. 13, while Morgan State visits PEC Arena for Senior Night on March 4.

Five Power Conference Tests

One of the most notable aspects of Coppin State’s schedule is the number of games against opponents from major conferences.

Tennessee comes to Baltimore, while the Eagles will travel to Maryland, West Virginia, Rutgers and SMU. That gives Coppin State five Power Conference opponents before postseason play, providing an extremely difficult measuring stick for head coach Darrell Mosley’s program.

The schedule also contains plenty of regional interest. Coppin State will face Maryland, Towson, UMBC, Morgan State and Maryland Eastern Shore, giving Maryland basketball fans several opportunities to see the Eagles against familiar opponents.

The two Morgan State games should once again carry extra significance. Coppin State travels across Baltimore to Hill Field House on Jan. 30 before the Bears make the return trip to PEC Arena for the regular-season finale on March 4.

MSB Take

Bringing Tennessee to Coppin State is a major event not only for the Eagles but for college basketball in Baltimore.

Smaller Division I programs frequently have to travel to Power Conference campuses to secure games against nationally recognized opponents. Coppin State has repeatedly found ways to bring those programs into its own building.

Tennessee represents the biggest name on the schedule, but this is not a one-game slate. Coppin State will be tested repeatedly before MEAC play with Maryland, West Virginia, Rutgers and SMU all waiting on the road.

The Eagles also have difficult mid-major matchups with VCU, Richmond, William & Mary, Towson, Monmouth and Dayton.

That can make the overall record look harsher early in the season, but there is value in playing that type of competition. By the time Coppin State gets deep into MEAC play, Mosley should have a much better understanding of his rotation and how his team responds against bigger, more athletic opponents.

The Nov. 5 game against Tennessee will understandably receive most of the attention. An eight-time national champion coming into PEC Arena is the type of game that can bring significant attention to Coppin State and the Baltimore basketball community.

The larger story, however, is the overall schedule.

Coppin State has once again shown that it is not afraid to challenge itself, and the 2026-27 Eagles will get opportunities against Power Conference programs, quality mid-majors, local rivals and every MEAC opponent before heading to Norfolk for the conference tournament in March.
