Sam Brown’s Four-Hit Game Highlights Harrisburg Senators’ 5-2 Loss to Chesapeake Baysox

Sam Brown went 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored, but the Harrisburg Senators lost 5-2 to the Chesapeake Baysox on Friday night in Bowie, Maryland. Despite nine hits through the first four innings, Harrisburg did not score until the eighth inning.

The Senators left 13 runners on base and went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. The loss dropped Harrisburg behind early as Chesapeake held off a late push.

Chesapeake Baysox Take Early Lead

Chesapeake took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Wehiwa Aloy drew a two-out walk. Thomas Sosa followed with a double that drove in Aloy.

Harrisburg created scoring opportunities in the second and fourth innings but could not convert. The Senators loaded the bases with one out in the second on hits from Ethan Petry, Sam Brown and Elijah Green before a double play ended the threat. In the fourth, hits from Petry and Brown, along with an error, put Harrisburg runners on second and third with no outs, but the Senators again failed to score.

Chesapeake scored three runs in the fifth inning against Yoel Tejeda Jr. and added another run in the sixth against Blake Brown. Tejeda pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Blake Brown allowed one run on two hits and one walk in 0.2 innings.

Harrisburg Senators Mount Late Push

Harrisburg scored its first run in the eighth inning. Sam Brown singled with one out, Elijah Green walked, and a balk moved both runners into scoring position before Devin Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly that scored Brown and cut the deficit to 5-1.

Brown’s 4-for-4 performance included a double and a run scored. It was his second career four-hit game with the Senators.

The Senators added another run in the ninth inning. Tyson Neighbors hit Devin Fitz-Gerald in the head with a pitch to begin the inning, but Fitz-Gerald walked off the field under his own power. Cortland Lawson pinch-ran, advanced to third on two wild pitches, and scored when Caleb Lomavita hit a sacrifice fly. Kervin Pichardo drew a one-out walk before Ethan Petry flied out to end the game.

Harrisburg Senators Prepare for Saturday

Harrisburg’s pitching staff kept Chesapeake scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings. Joe Glassey worked around an error while striking out three in the seventh, and Kyle Luckham retired the side in order with one strikeout in the eighth.

The Senators were scheduled to face the Baysox again Saturday at 6:35 p.m. in an attempt to tie the series. The starting pitcher was to be announced.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

Sam Brown’s four-hit game was the clearest offensive highlight for the Harrisburg Senators, but the team could not turn early opportunities into runs. Nine hits through four innings, 13 runners left on base, and a 1-for-13 performance with runners in scoring position defined the 5-2 loss.

Devin Ortiz and Caleb Lomavita each drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, but Harrisburg’s late scoring could not erase Chesapeake’s early advantage.
