Jeremiah Jackson Delivers in the Clutch as Orioles Rally Past Cubs 3-2 to Avoid Sweep

The Baltimore Orioles refused to let the Chicago Cubs leave Camden Yards with a three-game sweep.
After managing just one hit over the first seven innings, the Orioles erupted when it mattered most. Pinch-hitter Jeremiah Jackson lined a two-run double into the gap in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting Baltimore to a dramatic 3-2 victory Thursday afternoon. The comeback snapped a frustrating stretch for the Orioles and gave interim manager Craig Albernaz’s club a much-needed morale boost heading into its next series.
O’Neill Stays Red Hot
The Orioles grabbed an early lead in the second inning thanks to Tyler O’Neill, who continued his torrid stretch against Chicago.
O’Neill launched a solo home run to left field, giving Baltimore a 1-0 advantage. The blast continued an incredible trend, as it marked his third consecutive at-bat ending in a home run dating back to the previous game. It was one of the few bright spots for an Orioles offense that struggled to solve Cubs starter David Peterson for much of the afternoon.
Trevor Rogers Gives Baltimore Another Strong Start
Left-hander Trevor Rogers continued his impressive resurgence.
Rogers worked six innings, allowing just one earned run while keeping one of baseball’s more dangerous lineups under control. His only blemish came in the sixth inning when Seiya Suzuki tied the game with a solo homer.
Rogers mixed his fastball and off-speed pitches effectively, induced weak contact throughout the afternoon, and once again gave Baltimore every opportunity to win. His recent stretch has been among the biggest positives for the Orioles’ pitching staff during the second half of the season.
Cubs Briefly Take the Lead
Chicago finally broke through in the eighth.
Suzuki followed up his earlier home run with an RBI double, giving the Cubs a 2-1 lead and putting Baltimore on the verge of another heartbreaking defeat.
After being held to just two hits entering the bottom half of the inning, the Orioles desperately needed a spark.
They found one.
Jackson’s Biggest Hit as an Oriole
Baltimore mounted its rally with patience and timely execution.
Following two hit batters that put runners aboard, Albernaz turned to Jeremiah Jackson in a key pinch-hitting opportunity.
Jackson delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon, ripping a two-run double into right-center field. Both runners scored, sending Camden Yards into a frenzy as the Orioles reclaimed a 3-2 lead.
It was Jackson’s biggest hit since joining Baltimore and exactly the type of clutch production the Orioles have searched for throughout much of the season.
Bullpen Slams the Door
After the offense rallied, the bullpen finished the job.
Baltimore protected the one-run lead despite late pressure from Chicago, recording the final outs to secure the victory and avoid being swept at home.
While there were anxious moments in the ninth inning, the Orioles made the pitches they needed when it mattered most.

MSB Final Take
The Orioles have taken plenty of punches during the first half of the season, but Thursday showed the kind of resilience fans have been waiting to see. Trevor Rogers continued to pitch like a frontline starter, Tyler O’Neill stayed scorching hot, and Jeremiah Jackson justified the club’s confidence with one swing that changed the game.
If Baltimore hopes to climb back into the postseason conversation, it will need more afternoons exactly like this—strong starting pitching, timely hitting, and contributions from players throughout the roster. Thursday’s victory may count as just one win in the standings, but it felt much larger for a team searching for momentum.
