White Sox 9, Orioles 3: Seven-run third buries Baltimore

The Orioles dropped their fourth straight game Tuesday night, falling 9-3 to the White Sox at Camden Yards after one disastrous inning erased any chance of building momentum. Chicago scored seven runs in the top of the third and never looked back, securing the series victory.

Turning point

Baltimore actually opened the game well. The Orioles answered Chicago’s first-inning run by tying the game at 1-1, but everything unraveled in the third.

Rookie right-hander Trey Gibson lost the strike zone, issuing six walks while allowing seven hits. The White Sox took advantage of every mistake, with Colson Montgomery launching a home run before Junior Perez added a three-run blast later in the inning. By the time Gibson exited, the Orioles faced a massive deficit they could never overcome.

Gibson’s roughest outing

Making another important start as Baltimore searches for consistency in its rotation, Gibson endured a difficult night:

  • 2⅔ innings pitched
  • 8 earned runs allowed
  • 7 hits
  • 6 walks
  • 5 strikeouts

Despite the five strikeouts, the inability to throw consistent strikes led to constant traffic on the bases, and Chicago capitalized with timely power hitting.

Orioles offense couldn’t recover

Baltimore managed three runs but never mounted a serious comeback.

Highlights included:

  • Gunnar Henderson collected two hits and scored twice.
  • Pete Alonso drove in a run.
  • Dylan Beavers added an RBI later in the game.
  • The Orioles were unable to produce the big inning needed to erase the early deficit.

Bullpen provides a silver lining

After Gibson departed, the Orioles’ bullpen settled things down.

Albert Suárez delivered three scoreless innings, and Baltimore’s relievers combined to keep Chicago largely in check over the final 6⅓ innings, preventing the game from becoming even more lopsided.

Final thoughts

The Orioles continue searching for answers after another frustrating loss. While the bullpen performed well and Henderson continued to swing the bat effectively, the game was decided by one disastrous inning. Baltimore has now lost four straight games and six of its last seven, making the series finale an important opportunity to stop the slide before heading into the next stretch of the schedule.
