Delmarva Shorebirds Weekly Recap: June 12-19, 2026
Delmarva Shorebirds Weekly Recap: June 12-19, 2026

The Delmarva Shorebirds entered the week looking to build momentum after a strong road trip against the Augusta GreenJackets. Instead, the week became a tale of two very different stretches. Delmarva wrapped up its series in Columbia against the Fireflies before returning home to Salisbury for a matchup with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. There were offensive explosions, a few impressive individual performances, and some difficult pitching nights as the Shorebirds continued developing Baltimore’s youngest prospects.
Despite the ups and downs, several Orioles prospects continued to show growth, including Jordan Sanchez, Jaiden Lo Re, Joshua Liranzo, and Braylon Whitaker. The offense often gave Delmarva chances to win, but inconsistent pitching proved costly throughout the week.
June 12: Shorebirds at Columbia Fireflies
Delmarva opened the weekend series in Columbia looking to continue its recent success. The Shorebirds battled throughout the night but struggled to contain the Fireflies’ offense in key situations.
Several Delmarva hitters reached base multiple times, but the club was unable to string together enough timely hits late in the contest. Columbia capitalized on a few defensive mistakes and built enough separation to secure the victory.
While the result was disappointing, Delmarva’s lineup continued to show patience and competitiveness at the plate, traits that would become a theme throughout the week.
June 13: Shorebirds Show Offensive Life
Saturday brought one of the better offensive performances of the road trip.
Jordan Sanchez delivered key hits for Delmarva while several members of the lineup contributed run-scoring at-bats. Sanchez’s production was among the highlights of the week as the young infielder continued to establish himself as a consistent contributor in the lineup.
The Shorebirds generated traffic on the bases throughout the game and kept pressure on Columbia’s pitching staff. While pitching remained a concern at times, the offense showed the ability to score in bunches.
June 14: Columbia Takes Series Finale
The Shorebirds concluded the road trip Sunday against the Fireflies.
Columbia’s offense proved too much in the finale, handing Delmarva an 8-5 defeat. The Shorebirds fought back multiple times but could not overcome several big innings by the Fireflies. The loss capped a difficult road series and sent Delmarva back to Salisbury looking for a fresh start.
Even in defeat, the Shorebirds continued receiving contributions from the middle of their lineup, which remained one of the brighter spots on the roster.
Home Series vs. Myrtle Beach Pelicans
Returning to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, Delmarva opened a six-game series against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Unfortunately, the series started with several difficult games against a Pelicans club that swung the bats exceptionally well.
June 16: Pelicans Open Series Strong
Myrtle Beach wasted little time establishing control of the series opener.
The Pelicans’ lineup consistently found gaps and produced timely hits throughout the contest. Delmarva showed flashes offensively but struggled to keep pace with Myrtle Beach’s attack.
The Shorebirds managed several productive innings but couldn’t generate enough momentum to complete a comeback.
June 17: Offensive Opportunities Missed
Wednesday’s contest followed a similar pattern.
Delmarva put runners on base and created scoring chances, but Myrtle Beach repeatedly escaped jams. Strong relief pitching by the Pelicans neutralized several Shorebirds rallies.
Despite the loss, there were encouraging signs from some of the younger position players, who continued to demonstrate improved plate discipline.
June 18: A Game That Slipped Away
Thursday looked like it might become one of Delmarva’s best wins of the season.
The Shorebirds built a commanding lead behind an offense that erupted for 10 runs. Jordan Sanchez, Jaiden Lo Re, and Joshua Liranzo all delivered multiple hits while Delmarva appeared firmly in control entering the late innings.
Christian Rodriguez gave the Shorebirds a solid outing on the mound, allowing five runs over 5.1 innings, with only two of those runs earned due to defensive miscues. Delmarva held a 10-5 advantage after six innings and seemed headed toward a comfortable victory.
Then everything unraveled.
Myrtle Beach scored four runs in the seventh inning before completely breaking the game open with a stunning 12-run eighth inning. The Pelicans eventually scored 16 runs over the final three innings and turned what appeared to be a Shorebirds victory into a 21-10 defeat.
The loss was one of the toughest of the season for Delmarva, particularly because of how well the offense had performed.
June 19: Looking to Bounce Back
Friday’s matchup offered Delmarva a chance to put the historic collapse behind them.
The Shorebirds entered the game focused on stabilizing the pitching staff and continuing the offensive momentum generated throughout the week. Several young Orioles prospects remained among the club’s hottest hitters entering the weekend.
Players Who Stood Out
Jordan Sanchez
Sanchez continued to be one of Delmarva’s most productive hitters throughout the week. Multiple clutch hits and consistent contact helped drive the Shorebirds’ offense.
Jaiden Lo Re
Lo Re collected multiple-hit performances and was a key catalyst during Delmarva’s 10-run offensive outburst against Myrtle Beach.
Joshua Liranzo
Liranzo showed power and run-producing ability while recording a multi-hit game during the week. His offensive upside remains one of the most intriguing parts of Delmarva’s lineup.
Christian Rodriguez
Rodriguez’s start against Myrtle Beach was better than the final box score suggested. Defensive mistakes behind him contributed to several runs, and only two of the five runs charged against him were earned.
Week in Review
The Shorebirds experienced nearly every emotion possible during the past week. There were offensive explosions, impressive individual performances, and a five-game winning streak from the previous road trip still providing confidence. However, pitching inconsistency and defensive mistakes ultimately defined much of the week. Delmarva’s young roster continues to prioritize development, and several Orioles prospects showed encouraging progress despite the team’s struggles.
As the series against Myrtle Beach continues, the Shorebirds will look to turn strong offensive performances into victories and build momentum heading into the second half of the Carolina League season.
