Orioles Shut Out for First Time in 2026 as Mariners Take Series Finale, 3-0

The Baltimore Orioles were blanked for the first time all season Thursday afternoon, falling 3-0 to the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park. Despite the final score, the game was far from a poor pitching performance by Baltimore starter Shane Baz. One rough inning proved to be the difference.
Seattle scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the first inning. After two outs, Josh Naylor reached, Cole Young delivered an RBI double, and top prospect Colt Emerson followed with a two-run single. That quick burst gave the Mariners a 3-0 lead before many fans had settled into their seats.
From that point forward, Baz looked every bit like a frontline starter.
The right-hander retired 15 of the final 16 batters he faced and did not allow another run after the opening frame. Baz finished with seven innings pitched, five hits allowed, three earned runs, two walks, and a season-high nine strikeouts. Baltimore could not have asked for much more after the rocky start.
Unfortunately for the Orioles, Mariners starter Bryan Woo was even better.
Woo dominated Baltimore’s lineup, tossing seven-plus scoreless innings while allowing only three hits and striking out nine. Baltimore managed just a handful of baserunners and never found the big hit needed to get back into the game. The Orioles finished 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and struck out 11 times.
The Orioles’ best opportunity came in the eighth inning when they placed the first two runners aboard against Woo. Seattle turned to reliever Eduard Bazardo, who stranded both runners and preserved the shutout. Andrés Muñoz closed the door in the ninth for his 12th save of the season.
Baltimore’s offense never got going. The top of the lineup struggled throughout the afternoon, and the club generated only three hits against Woo before the late rally attempt. A team that has shown flashes of offensive potential throughout the season simply could not solve Seattle’s pitching staff.
The loss dropped the Orioles to 35-41 and cost them the series, two games to one. It also ended a streak of 75 consecutive games in which Baltimore scored at least one run, making Thursday’s contest the club’s first shutout loss of the 2026 season.
Turning Point
The game changed with two outs in the first inning. Baz appeared on the verge of a clean opening frame before Seattle strung together three consecutive scoring opportunities. Young’s RBI double and Emerson’s two-run single accounted for all the offense the Mariners would need.

Shane Baz — Orioles
Despite taking the loss, Baz deserved far better. After the first inning, Seattle had no answers for him. Seven innings, nine strikeouts, and only five hits allowed is typically a recipe for success. The Orioles simply provided no run support.
Up Next
The Orioles now head to Los Angeles for a challenging series against the defending champion Dodgers. Baltimore will look to get the offense back on track after one of its quietest performances of the season.
