MSB Fight Club: Justin Gaethje Shocks Ilia Topuria in Historic UFC Freedom 250 Thriller

The UFC delivered one of the most memorable events in company history Sunday night as UFC Freedom 250 took place on the South Lawn of the White House. The unique setting generated headlines before the first punch was thrown, but the action inside the Octagon more than lived up to the hype.

Fans were treated to a night packed with knockouts, title implications, and career-defining performances. By the end of the evening, Justin Gaethje stood atop the lightweight division after handing Ilia Topuria the first loss of his professional career.

Gaethje Finally Captures Undisputed Gold

For years, Justin Gaethje has been one of the UFC’s most exciting fighters. On Sunday night, he added another chapter to his legendary career.

Topuria entered the fight undefeated and carrying the momentum of victories over some of the sport’s biggest names. Early in the bout, it looked as though the champion might continue his reign. Topuria landed heavy shots and controlled much of the opening rounds.

Gaethje refused to fade.

The Arizona native began turning the tide in the third round with his trademark pressure, powerful right hands, and relentless pace. Damage started accumulating on Topuria’s face as Gaethje’s striking found its mark. By the end of the fourth round, Topuria’s corner had seen enough and stopped the fight between rounds, giving Gaethje a stunning TKO victory and the undisputed UFC lightweight championship.

The victory may go down as one of the biggest upsets of 2026 and arguably the greatest win of Gaethje’s career.

Ciryl Gane Stops Alex Pereira’s Three-Division Dream

The co-main event featured massive championship implications.

Former middleweight and light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira attempted to make history by becoming a three-division UFC champion. Standing in his way was Ciryl Gane.

Gane showcased elite movement and striking before finishing Pereira in the second round to capture the interim heavyweight title. The knockout victory immediately put Gane back into championship conversations and prevented Pereira from adding another historic achievement to his résumé.

Sean O’Malley Looks Like a Contender Again

Sean O’Malley reminded everyone why he remains one of the UFC’s biggest stars.

Facing Aiemann Zahabi, O’Malley used crisp boxing, excellent distance management, and pinpoint accuracy throughout the fight. The former bantamweight champion dropped Zahabi before finishing him with a spectacular second-round knockout.

The performance could place O’Malley right back into the title picture.

Josh Hokit Continues His Rise

One of the night’s biggest surprises came in the heavyweight division.

Josh Hokit entered the fight as a rising prospect but left as a legitimate contender after stopping veteran Derrick Lewis in the second round. Hokit overwhelmed Lewis with pressure and power, earning the biggest victory of his career.

The heavyweight division suddenly has another name to watch.

Mauricio Ruffy Delivers Highlight-Reel Finish

Michael Chandler’s difficult stretch continued.

Mauricio Ruffy wasted little time making a statement, stopping Chandler in the opening round. The explosive knockout added another highlight to Ruffy’s growing résumé and pushed him closer to the lightweight rankings.

Bo Nickal and Diego Lopes Shine

Bo Nickal continued his evolution as an MMA fighter with a first-round TKO victory over Kyle Daukaus. Once viewed primarily as a wrestling specialist, Nickal showcased improving striking and finishing ability.

Meanwhile, Diego Lopes earned another impressive win by stopping Steve Garcia in the second round. Lopes continues building momentum and remains one of the featherweight division’s most dangerous contenders.
