Blue Jays 6, Orioles 4: Early Toronto Surge Too Much for Baltimore to Overcome

The Baltimore Orioles entered Saturday afternoon looking to secure a series victory against the Toronto Blue Jays, but a rough middle inning proved costly in a 6-4 loss at Rogers Centre.
After pounding Toronto 13-3 on Friday night, Baltimore hoped to continue its recent offensive momentum. Instead, the Orioles spent most of the afternoon playing from behind after Toronto erupted against Kyle Bradish in the third inning and never fully surrendered control.
Baltimore actually struck first.
Colton Cowser gave the Orioles an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when the outfielder launched a solo home run. The blast briefly energized Baltimore’s offense and appeared to set the tone for another productive afternoon.
The lead did not last long.
Toronto answered immediately and then delivered the game’s biggest blow during a four-run third inning. Ernie Clement highlighted the rally with a three-run home run as the Blue Jays strung together several hits against Bradish. Brandon Valenzuela continued his strong series with multiple hits and helped keep pressure on Baltimore’s pitching staff throughout the afternoon.
Bradish entered the game coming off several strong outings but struggled to command the strike zone. Toronto consistently worked deep counts and capitalized whenever runners reached base. The Orioles starter lasted only four innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits.
The Orioles offense meanwhile struggled to generate sustained rallies.
Toronto starter Spencer Miles settled in after Cowser’s home run and retired nine consecutive Baltimore hitters during one stretch. Baltimore managed only scattered threats through the middle innings while the Blue Jays bullpen continued to limit scoring opportunities.
One bright spot for the Orioles was Gunnar Henderson.
Henderson collected three hits and consistently put quality swings on the baseball. Every time Baltimore seemed close to breaking through, however, Toronto found a big defensive play or a timely pitch.
The Orioles finally mounted a late comeback.
Pete Alonso delivered a two-run home run that cut into Toronto’s lead and briefly gave Baltimore life. Later, Blaze Alexander added a solo homer as the Orioles attempted to rally in the final innings. The long balls trimmed the deficit to 6-4 and forced Toronto’s bullpen to finish the job under pressure.
Baltimore also received a scare when Cowser appeared to injure his elbow during the game, though he remained in the contest and later made an impressive defensive play in the outfield.
Albert Suárez provided valuable relief work for the Orioles, tossing two effective innings and helping keep the game within reach. Keegan Akin also worked out of trouble at times, but the damage from Toronto’s early offensive explosion ultimately proved too much to overcome.
In the ninth inning, the Orioles brought the tying run closer to the plate, but Toronto closer Louis Varland shut the door. Clement capped off his outstanding afternoon by making a difficult defensive play on the game’s final ground ball, preserving the Blue Jays’ 6-4 victory.
