What a goal line stand that was

This Skins team will drive you to drink. Who blows a 24-14 lead with three minutes to play in a game? Not a good game to watch if you have blood pressure problems. And who invented those useless prevent defenses. All they do is prevent you from winning.

Anyway, the Skins lead has vanished and visiting San Diego is set to steal this win away Sunday in DC. I was just waiting for the ax to fall and pin another loss on this Washington team.

And then something wonderful happened. Our supposedly weakling defense held the Chargers from moving the ball one stinking yard. What a great defensive stand.

Yes, the Redskins were in a position to win easily over San Diego. And then they were 36 inches from losing the game. And finally the game went to overtime when RG III put together a game-winning drive.

The Skins are back in business at 3-5 after the 30-24 overtime win.

Now who is this Darrel Young fellow anyway? The one fellow who scored three times on Sunday near the goal line. From what I can tell he’s a load. He doesn’t even stand six feet tall yet he weighs in at 251 pounds. He’s a native of Amityville New York (yes, the scene of a scary movie) and he played at Villanova.

Alfred Morris had his typical strong day rushing the ball (121 yards and a score). Pierre Garcon was terrific catching the ball. He averaged 10 yards a catch with his 7 receptions.

RG III still needs to run more but he was terrific on that 11-play drive that measured 78 yards. There was a nice run by Morris (19 yards). A key pass to Jordan Reed on third-and-eight. We overcame a holding call aided by a 17-yard pass play to Garcon. A few Morris runs set up another TD run by the big Young. And then a celebration broke out.

Now it’s a short week. Off to see the Vikings in Minnesota. Yes, they have just one win but they are not to be taken lightly. The Vikes have lost four straight but gave Dallas fits before falling late. Adrian Peterson is still a force. Christian Ponder isn’t that bad. So let’s make it two in a row come Thursday night.
