Wayne Rooney scores a SICK goal in D.C. United’s

D.C. United returned to the pitch for the start of a big two game homestand. First up was a return from Orlando City SC to Audi Field and in a similar way to last season, Wayne Rooney lit up the scoreboard. The only difference though was this long kick wasn’t a direct pass to Luciano Acosta. This one came from beyond midfield right past Orlando goalkeeper Brian Rowe in the 10th minute.

After a great clear by midfielder Russel Canouse, the ball ricocheted right towards Rooney. Without even a dribble, Rooney shot a rocket from way downtown, past midfield, and it simply wasn’t close.

That goal would be the difference in a 1-0 D.C. United win that was badly needed. The club entered the contest winless in their last five games but still at least earned a point in those four.

The Black and Red dominated this game with four shots on target along with 15 total. Like the score though it was super close especially in passing accuracy where D.C. was edged by a narrow 86%-85%.

Orlando City SC had 11 corners compared to D.C. United’s four but Bill Hamid was unstoppable in net. His three saves pitched another shutout, his seventh of the season. He’s second in the league behind Brad Guzan of the MLS Cup champion Atlanta United FC.

The Black and Red look to continue this momentum into Saturday night and look for another three points against Toronto United FC. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. in what is sure to be a packed Audi Field.
