How Sweep It Is! Maryland Baseball Defeats Notre Dame

Maryland Baseball pulled off a huge sweep this weekend in their final ACC home games. Maryland’s pitching staff shut down Notre Dame as the Terps won three huge games.

On Friday night, Jake Stinnett¬†twirled a complete game shutout in the final home start of his career. Stinnett struck out 13 Notre Dame hitters. This was Stinnett’s fourth complete game of the year, and his second in ACC play. Maryland’s offense was quiet again, but Jose Cuas’s 2-RBI single was all Stinnett needed.

Many factors come into play: some teams prefer high school players over college players, some will draft pitcher-heavy, and others will look to take local players. There are several top prospects, and one of them is Maryland righty Jake Stinnett.

A tough week for Maryland Baseball

Maryland_terrapins_logoIt has been a rough week for the University of Maryland baseball team. After last week’s loss to West Virginia, the Terps managed to bounce back with a win over a solid George Mason team. However, Maryland could not carry any momentum into the weekend, as they were swept by Boston College. The Eagles were near the bottom of the ACC before this weekend. Today, Maryland lost to James Madison.

The Terps did get some good starts over the weekend. Jake Stinnett, the team’s ace, struck out ten hitters on Friday, but Maryland couldn’t generate any offense in a 5-1 loss. On Sunday, sophomore Jake Drossner, who has been a pleasant surprise for the ballclub, turned in another good outing. Drossner only allowed four hits, but the Terps once again failed to find any offense in a 5-2 loss.
