Report: Capitals Prospect Chase Priskie informs officials that he will not sign with Washington

Quinnipiac senior defenseman Chase Priskie, the Capitals 6th round pick from 2016, has informed the Capitals that he will be signing with another team come August 15. The promising defenseman has starred for the Quinnipiac Bobcats for the last 4 seasons, earning a nomination as a Hobey Baker finalist this year.

Priskie, who the Capitals attempted to sign last year at the end of his junior season, raised eyebrows on his decision to return to school. This decision brought questions of his long-term commitment to the Capitals and whether he would test the waters of free agency.

With his intention to hit free agency, Priskie can now sign with any team he desires. Look for nearly every team to offer him a contract, including the Capitals. With this loss, the Capitals should look to shore up a weak defensive pool, given the shaky play of 2016 first rounder Lucas Johansen and the injuries to 2018 first rounder Alex Alexeyev.
