Redskins sign Wendell Smallwood, release Byron Marshall

One day after roster cut downs, the Washington Redskins have cut running back Byron Marshall and signed former Philadelphia Eagles running back Wendell Smallwood off of waivers.

Smallwood, drafted by the Eagles in the 5th round of the 2016 draft, recorded 850 rushing yards in three years with the team. Smallwood finished 2018 with 364 rushing yards on 87 attempts for a 4.2 yard per carry average and added 28 receptions for 230 yards. Smallwood figures to be a safety net in case of injury to Chris Thompson.
