Recap: Nats Sole Run Leads to Victory

The Nats took the rubber match of the series today against the Cardinals, beating the Cardinals 1-0. That was the Nats second series win against the Cardinals on the year. The Nats were given another quality going 6IP 4H 0ER 1BB 9K’s. With Scherzer’s 9K’s on the day, he passes Mike Mussina for sole possession of 21st on the all-time strikeout list.

The Nats and Cardinals offense both struggled on the day. Both teams scattered 10 hits and combined for only one run. The Nats scattered four hits on the day, with Alex Avila driving in the sole run of the day. Avila doubled in the 2nd inning driving in Josh Bell. Following Scherzer’s outing, the Nats bullpen carried the load to finish the game. The bullpen combined for 3IP 2H 0ER 3BB 1K. Brad Hand came on in the top of the 9th and recorded his second save in consecutive days.

The Nats will have an off day tomorrow and will get back in action on Friday 4/23. They will open up a new three game series at Citi Field. The Nats will send out Erick Fedde, while the Mets will be sending out their ace Jacob DeGrom. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05PM.
