Recap Nationals Defeat Phillies,9-8

The Washington Nationals held off the Philadelphia Phillies, 9-8 on Wednesday in regular season action. The Nats’ record now stands at 2-3. The Phillies’ drop to 4-1.

Anibal Sanchez pitched a very strong four innings for Washington. Allowing 4 runs and 4 strikeouts while pitching. Matt Grace a relief pitcher for the Nationals struggled while he had 2 runs and 1 strikeout.

Offensively, the long ball ruled for Washington. Belting out three home runs out of the ballpark by Juan Soto, Ryan Zimmerman, and Anthony Rendon each contributed one to the total. In middle of the eighth inning, catcher Yan Gomes scored on an error by Phillies Hoskins and Adam Eaton was declared safe. Also, in the eight inning Yan Gomes doubled and Andrew Stevenson scored. At the bottom of the inning, the score was 8 to 8 and Jake Noll stepped up to bat and walked.

The Washington Nationals play the New York Mets tomorrow at 1:05pm at Citi Field in New York. Pitching for the Nationals will be Stephen Strasburg.
