Ravens QB Lamar Jackson named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

For the second time this season Baltimore Ravens’ star quarterback and reigning league MVP, Lamar Jackson, has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after a dominant performance in a win over the Cleveland Browns.

Jackson was honored with this designation after carving up the Browns’ secondary with his arm in the season opener to the tune of 275 yards and three touchdowns passing and a perfect passer rating in a 38-6 rout.

Baltimore was able to complete the season series sweep and keep their playoff hopes alive and well in Monday Night Football instant classic thanks in large part to the way that Jackson was able to gash Cleveland’s defense with his legs running the ball and extending plays in the passing game.

The Ravens were propelled to a 47-42 victory by Jackson’s three total touchdown performance where he set and Monday Night Football record with his game-high and team-leading 124 yards rushing on nine carries.

He averaged a gaudy 13.8 yards-per-carry and scored two first-half touchdowns on the ground from five and 17 yards out.

His third and final touchdown came in dramatic fashion when he emerged from the team locker room after missing the majority of the fourth quarter with cramps and delivered a beautiful bomb on fourth down to speedy second-year wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown for a 44-yard go-ahead score.

“It was like a scene out of a movie,” Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield said. “As soon as [Trace McSorley] went down, you could see Lamar come trotting back onto the field. It was like geez. He is a great player. You are just going to have to try to contain him. You are never going to be able to stop guys like that. He is just a great player.”

Jackson finished 11-for-17 for 163 yards passing and his last four attempts picked up 38 yards and put the Ravens in position to trot out All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker for a game-winning field goal from 55 yards out that he nailed and would’ve been good from 60 yards out.

This marks the seventh time that Jackson has received this honor in his young career in just his second season as the full-time starter. He was a five-time recipient of it last year during his unanimous MVP winning campaign but is more focused on getting his team to the playoffs for the third year in a row and hopefully go all the way after early exits in each of the last two postseasons.
